    Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Do you want to learn to draw? This calss uses proven techniques from the national bestseller, "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." Well develop your skills by "tricking" the left side of the brain into turning off and allowing the right side of the brain to cmpose drawings. You will learn to see negative space, how to draw correct proportions in a portrait, how to find edges that make contours and many other drawing skills. Only the simplest drawing materials are required. Bring to class a newsprint pad of paper and drawing pencils.

    Outdoor Sketching on Cape Ann Enjoy your warm summer evenings outdoors, during the longest days of the year, sketching the natural beauty of Cape Ann in full bloom. Selected sites will include tranquil areas landscaped with trees and footpaths, marshes and sandy coastline areas abundant with waterfowl, a journey to the rugged rocks surrounding the harbors of Cape Ann and/or the unique shops, historic landmarks and rustic old homes. You may even find a castle or two to sketch in your journeys. In the first clas we will review some basic drawing techniques and make decisions on 4 on-site locations. Bring your drawing supplies, an easel or stiff drawing board. Limited to 14 students with transportation.

    Caricatured Cartoon Creations Pre: Co: Elect: You don't have to be an artist, but you will develop a sense of humor altering & expanding the once-proportionate characteristics of family, friends, faces & bodies; even objects & moods can be caricatured! You will learn basic cartooning techniques, how to adapt humor to art, how to identify those subtleties that make each person unique, and how to effectively use line control, your imagination and freedom of expression. Bring your pens, pencils & drawing pads for a very relaxing evening of drawing & humor.

    Landscapes Pre: Co: Capture the beauty of Fall on canvas. Learn to build the landscape through the use of composition, perspective, color and value relationships. Begin with charcoal design and add color with pastels, oils or acrylics. Previous drawing and painting experience is required.     Spring Florals & Special Occasions Pre: Co: Professional step-by-step guidance will help you in designing these large scale arrangements for special occasions such as Easter Passover, Mother's Day, or simply for your own home! Our projects include a lovely, welcoming door wreath, a fragrant long table centerpiece, a decorative wall basket arrangement interchangeable for fresh, dried, or silks, and a delightful floral Spring basket for your holiday table. Flower and foliage care and culture, creative tips on the use of floral wire, foam and tape is included. Supply fee $18 per class/per week.

    Inspired by Nature: Painting and Photography Pre: Co: Enjoy the excitement of recording fleeting moments in nature, and then refine them in the studio. Cameras, sketchbooks and paints will be employed on field trips to collect information. Back in the studio, these images will be refined in terms of composition, value and color. You will gain an understanding of editing photographs and sketching in preparation for painting. Emphasis will be on the process of making art, rather than the end product. Along the way you will develop your ability to use color effectively and strengthen your drawing skills. Please bring a camera (a disposable is fine), a sketchbook and pencils to first day of class. Open to all skill levels.
