Pre: Co: Elect: EXPRESSIVE DRAWING: Would you like to express your feelings about what you see through drawing? Will an object look different drawn with a brush, a big stick of charcoal, a little pen? This class is about observation - how we see our world, and how to find the best way to express it. We will explore mediums, lines, light and shadow, scale, and see what works best. We will be working from everyday objects as well as imagination and, if appropriate, will go outdoors to draw. Materials will cost about $20 - payable to the instructor.

Pre: Co: Elect: Have you ever wondered how to get started in the greeting card business? Do you know how to prepare artwork for sending in the mail? We will discuss the many aspects of marketing your artwork, and research the major gift, book, and department stores to learn which styles and techniques really sell. Using their existing artistic talents, students will design potential cards - from covers to the carous folds used to the inside greatting. Feel free to bring in some samples of your work for discussion. How inspiring it would be to see your work on a Hallmark! Limited to 15 adults.

Pre: Co: Elect: No one experiences more joy from artistic expression than children, but many adjults have lost the capacity to see the world from young eyes! This philosophy class will discuss the developmental stages in children's art, values of art to the child, and some methods used in teaching art to this age group. Slides, lectures, and selected readings will be used to impart information (this is not a traditional studio course). This course is ideal for future art majors, church school instructors, recreational personnel, camp counselors, and others who work (or plan to work) with youngesters.

Flower Painting in Oils Pre: Co: Elect: Learn how to capture on canvas the richness and delicacy of spring and summer's beauties - from roses and peonies to daisies and wildflowers. Using flowers as our subject matter, we will discuss color, form, value, composition, and general techniques. Please bring oil painting materials to the first meeting; any specific supply purchases will be mentioned at that time.

Pre: Co: Elect: WET-ON-WET-WATERCOLOR: Watercolor on wet paper is unpredictable in its flow, and will dry creating interesting images. A s participants master the technique, real images will evolve-and can be emphasized to create a unified painting. Open to 12 beginning through intermediate painters. A supply list will be mailed to each enrolled student prior to the first class.

Pre: Co: Elect: If you are looking to explore your imagination and create interesting photography, this course will help you. We will dispense with the mechanics of photography and focus strictly on photographic artistry. We will cover the basic principles of composition and use the viewfinder as a canvas to be filled. Whether your interests are in portraiture, nature, photojournalism or even abstract photograph - this class will encourage you to throw out the old rules and use your imagination instead. Bring your favorite photographs to the first class. (knowledge of basic camera skill required.

Exploring Negative Space Pre: Co: Expand your horizons. Focus on the space surrounding the objects you would like to draw or paint. Create a painting giving as much, if not more, importance to the negative space (the space around the objects). Surprises are in store. Bring watercolors or drawing materials.
