    Pre: Co: Elect: ARTIST'S SAMPLER: Watercolors, pastels, oils, acryclics and charcoal all have different properties. This class will give you a chance to try them out one at a time, without a large financial investment in materials. Each class will consist of a lecture/demonstration, individual experimentation with each medium, some color theory and the basic principles of constructing a picture will be included. Beginners are most welcome. Students are responsible for bringing a staff grawing board and old newspapers to each class. A $20.00 materials fee is payable to the instructor during the first class.

Students will learn the proper techniques of this medium while developing their own, personal style. you can create soft and sensitive images or more vigorous and dynamic art. This is a good opportunity to translate your drawing skills into a working knowledge of color or develop your painting skills through the use of a dry medium while receiving individualized instruction.     Pre: Co: Elect: ANIMATION: Have you ever been baffled by the bravery of Bugs Bunny, riled by the ravings of Roger Rabbit or scintillated by the super deeds of Superman? Have you ever wondered how all favorite Saturday cartoons are made? In this class we will answer these questions as well as learn the many fascinating small objects and learning about the phenomenon of pixilation. Join us, even if you've just started to have fun with drawing.

    Pre: Co: Elect: The exciting craft of rug hooking is an inexpensive art medium which can produce a useful, beautifully authentic heirloom or designer rug. This four session courser will demonstrate both old and newer unique approaches to this art. We will familiarize you with fabric backings, yarns, color & design. Each student will explore both methods by bringing an 8" embroidery hoop to the first class. Supplies to be purchased will be available from local shops for those who wish to begin a project. Your first rug or wall hanging can be completed in just a few weeks!

    Pre: Co: Elect: BATIK: Batik may be an ancient textile art, but with renewed interest inthe technique over the past few decaded, it has become a valued and exciting skill. We will explore the four basic procedures; designing, waxing, drying and fixing the fabric. Studetns will leave the class also understanding how to incorporate these elements with other textile media to create a contemporary feel. Studetns will purchase their own supplies.

    Pre: Co: Elect: FABRIC DESIGN: Not all interesting clothing comes from malls! Some of it is purchased at a mall-and made more interesting and personal later! Using many skills, we willl learn to decorate and design T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other apparel-to help you make that special statement. We will use tie-dye, fabrc crayons, hand painting, and various types of printing. All but the clothing items will be provided. Bring a plain, light T-shirt to the first class. Class limited to 15 students ages 10-12.

    Pre: Co: Elect: UNDERSTANDING COLOR: Discover a new way to see! In this interesting introduction to color and design, we will study psychological and physical color relationships, and, through exercises and discussions, explore the effects of color. By applying Joseph Alber's theories, students will begin to understand color phenomenon. Please purchase one 6x8 box of color-aid paper, one-coat rubber cement, exacto knofe and #11 blades, scissors, inexpensive pad od white paper, metal ruler, and notebook. Ideal for non-artists interested in color, as well.

    Pre: Co: Elect: THE TECHNIQUES OF GOUACHE: Gouache, a water-based medium, can be used like oils or acrylics, and, or course, can be used like watercolor! This medium is favored by commercial artists and illustrators. Please purchase illustration board and watercolor brushes. Paints to be purchased will be mentioned at the first class. Prerequisite: formal or informal painting skills.

    Figure Drawing Pre: Co: Elect: Human anatomy has intrigued artists from the dawn of time. This "life drawing" class will explore methods such as contour, gesture, modeling and posture, as well as positive/ negative space to create figurative work on a two- dimensional surface. Every attempt will be made to individualize instruction at each student's level. Bring newsprint pad, pencils and charcoal to the first class. Additional supplies will be mentioned at that time. A minimal fee for models ($5-8) should be payable to the instructor.
