    Light and Atmosphere Pre: Co: This acrylic painting course focuses primarily on creating light and atmosphere through glazing techniques. Contemporary and traditional landscapes will be studied to create value studies. These will inform individual student's work. We will look at Thomas Cole along with Hans Hoffman and explore compositions through light dark patterning. Please bring acrylics, gloss medium, brushes, and synthetic brushes.

    Landscape Painting Pre: Co: Bring your watercolors, pencils, and paints to NSCC. Once instructions are given along with maps we will go on a field trip for painting "plein air". Composition, color, balance, and creating landscapes through linear and aerial perspective will be covered. Bring lots of water, suntan lotion and materials of choice.

    Magnificent Bouquets-Magnificent Vase Arranagements Whether your flowers are hand cut from your garden or purchased as a "supermarket bouquet" your arrangements will take on a new dimension. You will want to bring in a favorite vase or container to both classes and a $12 suppply fee each night, plus clippers and or a floral knife. We will discuss cut flower preservation, hand wrapping bouquets, as we expand upon the elements of visual design and style. This class will unfold to you a wealth of inspirational ideas.

    Degas Dancers Pre: Co: Get into the spirit of the Nutcracker and experience drawing ballet dancers in beautiful, graceful poses. Edgar Degas, a French impressionist painter, spent much time sketching ballet dancers in performance and practice to hone his skills in figure drawing. Use live models in ballet costumes as well as photographs. Open to beginners in figure drawing as well as those with some experience. Bring a large newsprint pad, soft vine charcoal, a kneaded gray eraser, and a rag to class. There is a $20 model fee payable to the instructor in class.

    Water Color/Open Color Workshop Work magic as you apply watercolors to wet paper, blending and flowing to create beautiful patterns. Materials needed: Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian Green and New Gamboge or Cadmium Yellow, one large sheet of 140 pound watercolor paper and two round watercolor brushes- one small (size 6) and one large (size 16), masking tape and two pieces of cardboard.

    Watercolor/Open Color Give yourself permission to color outside the lines. Work magic as you apply watercolors to wet paper. Watch as colors blend and flow creating beatiful patterns, then experiment with your own style of calligraphy. Use your brush to create lines to define shapes. Add another layer of transparent color creating a translucent effect. Allow yourself to be open and free. Materials needed: Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian Green and New Gamboge or Cadmium Yellow, one large sheet of 140lb watercolor paper (Arches is recommended), and two round watercolor brushes, one small (size 6) and one large (size16), masking tape and two pices of cardboard.
