    Advanced Identification of Trees Pre: Co: This class will present some of the more unusual and sophisticated ornamental trees that can be planted in New England, their distinguishing characteristics, horticultural requirements, and some suggested landscape applications. Trees to be covered will include both native and exotics. Height, form, twig and bud characteristic, leaf shape, color, and other significant features will be discussed, as well as ways of using these plants in design. Twig samples, slide lectures, and Saturday field trips will aid in plant identification and provide examples of plant use. There will be a final exam. In addition, students will be required to keep photo journals.

    Advanced Identification of Shrubs Pre: Co: This seminar will present some of the more unusual and sophisticated ornamental shrubs that can be planted in New England, their distinguishing characteristics, horticultural requirements, and some suggested landscape applications. Shrubs to be covered will include both native and exotics. Height, form, twig and bud characteristics, leaf shape, color, and other significant features will be discussed as well as ways of using these plants in design. Twig samples, slide lectures, and two field trips will aid in plant identification and provide examples of plant use. There will be a final exam. Prerequisite: Shrubs - Identification and Culture, or equivalent.

    Auditioning for the Musical Stage Pre: Co: This intensive workshop in musical comedy is for beginners and intermediate performers, theatre majors, or anyone interested in developing their stage presence. Participants will learn all aspects of dramatic coaching, diction, musical style, interpretation, presentation, relationship of instrumental accompaniment to the vocal setting, and the historical setting of the repertoire. The last class will end with student performances.

    Blues Guitar Basics I Pre: Co: Elect: This is an introductory course designed for the beginning blues guitar enthusiast. Starting at a level where you can succeed, the instructor will work with students in groups and one-on-one in a lead & follow setting. You will learn about rhythm, timing, how to execute soulful leads over basic chord structures. Works of various artists introduced may include Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Johnson, BB King and student's personal choices. Knowledge of tablature and basic open chords will be helpful. Tape recorders welcome.

    Blues Guitar Basics, II Pre: Basic Guitar skills & knowledge of tab required. Co: Elect: Students registering for this course should be familiar with 12 bar blues structure or have taken Blues Guitar Basics 1. The instructor will work with students one-on-one in a lead & follow setting. Focus will be on performing clean execution of blues, riffs, introducting "new licks" from famous blues artists expanding upon works or artists in Basics 1, improved rhythm & timing and experimenting with what gives the blues its soulful inspiration. .

    Drawing and Painting - Beyond Beginner Pre: Co: Now that you are excited about painting and drawing tools, jump into a class to learn more advanced techniques. Projects in this informal class are designed to help you develop your observation skills, paint handling technique, and allow you to explore a variety of styles. Open to everyone with previous drawing and painting skills. Bring your acrylic or watercolor supplies to first day of class.

    Environmental Portraits Students will meet for an instructional morning meeting before venturing out on location. Topics of discussion will include: scenic composition, playing with light and shadow, flowers, plants and botanical portraits, as well as exposures for landscapes and more complete scene overage. The "on-location" photo shoot will last 2 1/2 - 3 hours. At the end of the week, students will meet for an instructional critic of visual images captured. This class is for 35mm photography students. Bring your own camera.

    Animal Portraiture Pre: Co: Capture the essence of your pet through a variety of artistic mediums. Class will start each week with a brief relaxation exercise that will put us more in touch with our creative inner self. You will work on pastel paper with colored pencils, willow charcoal, drawing pencils, pastels, and drawing skills. To the first class, please bring: willow charcoal, chamois, drawing pencils (2H, 4B, 6B), cheap student grade pastels, Canson pastel paper (choose the size you want to work on), a board to attach your paper to, a kneaded eraser, a blending stump, a set of colored pencils, and a pencil sharpener. Please bring a photo of an animal you would like to draw.
