See countless flower varieties and how they are packed and stored. Browse the aisles of the supply end of the business and learn how florists buy in bulk. You will also have a chance to purchase flowers for your own personal use.

    How to Navigate Without GPS Pre: Co: Before GPS, explorers used sextant, map and compass to find their way without landmarks. Learn basic sextant use and other methods to find your position, longitude and latitude; use of a compass to determine true versus magnetic difference; how to read maps; how to measure distances, the width of a river, the height of a tree or mountain; lines of position, dead reckoning, triangulation and basic GPS use and characteristics. Bring a simple baseplate compass (about $11), clear acrylic full circle protractor, 12" ruler, notebook, calculator, pens and pencils with erasers, and the Ipswich USGS map ($6.50). No GPS or sextants required. One each will be displayed (you can't use a sextant or GPS inside anyway). Bring a sturdy pair of hiking boots should the class decide to meet outdoors to test their abilities.

    Wildflower Wreaths Grapevines twined into a 16" - 18" diameter wreath is our full-scale project for this workshop. A colorful array of everlasting, seasonal dried wildflowers and specialty items are all displayed on this lovely keepsake wreath for indoor or outdoor use. A supply fee of $22 is payable to the instructor during the workshop. Students should bring a hot glue gun and glue sticks.

    Art Recipes for Creativity Pre: Co: Let's see what unusual art recipes we can "cook up" as we add a pinch of this, a dash of that, layers of this and a heaping amount of playfulness on top. Find out what kind of art you can create when you mix up shaving cream and watercolor, foil and acrylics, rice paper and watercolor, cloth and tape, recycled materials and paint. Unusual combinations make unusual, eye-catching art. A materials fee of $25 is due to the instructor at the first class.

    Why pay the high cost of sending flowers when you can learn the art and technique of arranging as you complete your own each week to take home. You will create "formal", "cottage or garden style" arrangements, "loose & airy", "long low" and secrets on how to make "loose flowers in a vase" become the focal point in any room. You will even learn how to design small hand-held bouquest for proms or weddings. Learn the professional "tips & tricks" used in this fragrant and lovely art form. Students will reimburse the Instructor $12.00 weekly for flower purchase & florist supplies, payable 2 weeks in advance.

    Manga: The Art of Japanese Cartooning Pre: Co: Develop a short story and character designs all your own in the Japanese style of cartooning. The story will be bound and shared with all students in the class. Short reading assignments will help you become familiar with the style and type of cartooning Japanese artists create. Draw during class, while going over assisgnments, techniques and problem-solving exercises. Please call for a supply list at least one week before class.

    Living Wreaths Here is something delightful and new for horticulture enthusuasts. Create a living wreath using drought tolerant plants, select soil, moss and appropriate wired frames. Size appx. 14"+ finished. Living wreaths are low maintenance, require little care and provide everlasting inspiration as you nurture and shape its growth. Discover which plants work best both indoors and out. Essential supplies are available in class where students will reinburse the instructor. Materials total $22 per wreath.

    Focus on Faces - Learning to Draw People Pre: Co: Do you want to draw people more realistically and learn about the proportions of the human face as well as how to capture the special essence of a person? Here's the palce to start. This workshop will help you see with an artist's eye so that the parts of the face will work with the whole to create likenesses of the people you portray. Bring a large newsprint pad, soft vine charcoal, a kneaded gray eraser, and a rag to class.

    Focus on Figures - Learning to Draw People Pre: Co: Observe the muscles, bone structure, and proportion of the human figure under clothing by drawing a live clothed figure. Several different models will wear a variety of clothing. Learn proportion, spatial relationships, values, and texture. Individual help provided when needed. Bring to class soft vine charcoal, a kneaded gray eraser, a rag and a pad of newsprint paper at least 14"x18".

    A Gallery of Flowers & Herbs Pre: Co: Elect: create an extra-special keepsake to treasure the beauty of Summer's flowers, herbs, unusual grasses & interesting leaf foliage pressed behind glass in an 8" x 10" frame to put on display! You will learn how to press your own flowers, how to mount delicate items on a matboard, use calligraphy pens to identify your botanicals and then add the finishing touch with ribbon or lace. Students should bring in "fresh picked" materials for pressing or you may purchase them for a minimal fee from the instructor. Bring white paper, a large book or telephone directory to class.
