    Children's Book Illustration Pre: Co: Illustrator Andrea Sweeney teaches techniques for illustrating and creating a mini-children's book. Bring samples of your art and short stories you'd like to illustrate to the first class. We'll look at a variety of authors and styles for inspiration. You don't have to be a great illustrator to do this...in fact you can create collages, use your photos for the resource and draw from those. Creativity is an open book! A $20 materials fee is payable to instructor in class.

    Caligraphy at Christmastime Pre: Co: Elect: Explore different ways to use the beautiful art of calligraphy for creative and elegant holiday projects. This class will focus on designing holiday greeting cards, the use of calligraphy to personalize gifts, creative wrapping ideas, old world greetings & hand lettered wall art. Sutdents should have a good working knowledge of at least one style of calligraphy. Bring paper, pencils, ruler & calligraphy. Bring paper, pencils, ruler & calligraphy supplies to the first class.

    Rhythm, Hand Drumming and Percussion This course will explore a variety of lively tempos including rock, jazz, calypso and Latin patterns using a clever variety of instruments including tambourine, bongos, claves, egg shakers, maracas and drums. Bring percussion instruments of any size, style and sound. All ages welcome.

    Baseball by the Numbers Pre: Co: Math warning, if numbers make you nervous, stop reading now. Learn about the innovative statistical methods baseball teams like the Red Sox are now using to assess players. Explore how some of the more accurate measurement tools for hitters are calculated, and argue the merits of these stats against the more traditional numbers. The only prerequisite is to love the game. Wear your favorite baseball hat.

    Christmastime Stained Glass Pre: Co: Elect: Learn how to design santas, angels and festive, multi- colored ornaments to welcome in the holiday season with the vivid colors of stained glass. Students will learn this fine art of cutting, copper foiling, soldering glass, pattern technique, and color design to create lovely Christmas ornaments for your home. You may want to design a pair of candle holders too! Prior experience is helpful but not necessary. Limited to 12 students.

    Stained Glass Pre: Co: Learn the art of copper foiling and stained glass while creating a sun catcher and one other project of your own design or from a pattern. Materials fee is $20 for glass for the first project, paid to instructor at the first class. A list of tools you will need to purchase will be provided at the first class.     Seascapes and Landscapes Pre: Co: Students will meet at NSCC and venture off to an outdoor site. We will paint an impression of nature by creating watercolor landscape sketches. Students will explore composition, form, tone and color while receiving individual instruction in a group setting. The techniques of painting in watercolors will be stressed using a basic watercolor palette. Please bring a sketchbook, eraser and 2b pencil to the first class. All levels of experience are welcome.

    Origami Pre: Co: Origami, the ancient art of paper folding is brought to you in the 21st century as an exciting class for adults. Start with the basic folds and then become comfortable with reading diagrams and working with paper. Create wonderful designs that can be used as decoration in your home, even some that can be played with as toys. Upon leaving this class you should be capable of folding nearly any diagram of the intermediate level or below. A $10 materials fee for paper and other optional supplies is payable to the instructor at the first class.

    Papercraft & Bookbinding Explore the media of "book arts" for teachers, artists and creative individuals interested in creating personal journals, photo books, sketchbooks or travel logs. Discover the beauty of paper with flower petals, leaf patterns, animal patterns and metallics while choosing from hundreds of hand-crafted papers. This course will meet at a studio that boasts a visually appealing display of hand-crafted paper from around the world. The Paper Crane is located on Cabot St. in downtown Beverly, MA.
