    Elementary Guitar for Elementary Teachers This class is designed for adults who work with children. Classroom teachers, aides, day care instructors, camp counselors, etc. We will cover tuning, simple chords, learning difficult concepts through music, exploring our feelings, learn about pitch and rhythm as well as network together to share many new and clever musical ideas.

    Baby Sign Say and Play Pre: Co: Learn to communicate with your baby with Baby Signs, before they learn to speak. Research shows that babies who sign with their parents develop both language and cognitive skills. Parents and child will learn 6 or 7 signs each week through a series of developmentally appropriate activities developed especially for parents and babies. Class size limit of 10 families, one child each. A materials fee of $70 per family for the Baby Signs kit is payable to the instructor at the first class.

We will discover how to form "open" chords, learn to fingerpick, strum to the beat of different rhythms and find new ways to easily notate what you have learned.     Basic Stone Setting Pre: Co: Create a pendant in this introduction to prong setting using fully finished, pre-notched sterling silver settings and created stones. Materials and hand tools may be purchased from the instructor at class for a range of $40 to $50, depending on materials chosen.

    Violin for Beginners Pre: Co: Would you like to learn "how to" play the violin or review what you once knew? This class will teach fingering and bowing exercises using the Suzuki auditory method. Reading skills are not neccessary. You will learn how to tune and care for your instrument and simply enjoy playing together. After several weeks, you'll be able to play your violin and enjoy experimenting. The instructor has many rental violins available. Everyone should bring a playable violin and bow to class.

    Baby Signs Parent Workshop Pre: Co: Learn how using sign language with your child up to age 24 months can reduce frustration and build trust, allow babies to share their world with you, improve their self-confidence, jumpstart their intellectual development, and help them learn to talk. Drs. Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn have documented the positive effects of teaching infants to communicate with signs before they can talk. Parents will be taught the history of the Baby Signs program, why to use signs, when to start teaching them, and will begin building a signing vocabulary to use at home with your child. A materials fee of $35 is payable to the instructor in class.

    Oil Painting Basics Pre: Co: Have you wanted to work with oils, but don't know where to start? This course will focus on selecting and becoming familiar with your palette, mixing color, choosing brushes, mediums and experimenting with surfaces, textures and techniques. Five students will have the opportunity to work with the instructor and artist in her Gloucester studio. We will begin with simple objects to maximize painting time discussing composition, design, value, and what makes a "good painting."     Harmonica for Beginners Starting right from scratch you will learn to play a variety of old favorite standard "campfire" songs as we cover the basics. Later we will work with various blues styles and become more progressive in our playing and learning about "special effects and techniques". Students are encouraged to bring in a 10-hole harmonica in the key of B flat to the first class. Golden Melody, Blues Harp, Special 20 & Marine Band are all good harps and can be purchased at local music shops.

In challenging economic times especially, tools like clear observation, defining difficulties and developing creative strategies to address them will transform any of your "inside the box" thinking to "outside the box" as you identify problems and remain true to your sense of purpose and prosperity.

    Beyond Beginning Guitar Pre: Co: Are you at a plateau in your playing style and want to learn more about rhythm, timing, and technique? Could your strum patterns use a new back beat? If you know a handful of chords, a pocketful of songs, a scale or two, but unsure of where to go with it all - you've come to the right class. All styles of music will be covered. This is an opportunity to polish what you already know, learn more, and have your questions answered. This course will definitely pick your playing up a notch or two.
