    Flower Shop - Designing I Pre: Co: Elect: Learn about horticulture and how to effectively use color combinations in nature while designing today's most interesting floral bouquets and fresh flower arrangements which you will take home each week. Learn the "ins & outs" behind the florist's counter while employing the professional methods & materials used in creating "all occasion" and "special occasion' arrangements. Your instructor will do all the shopping, passing on the "wholesale cost to each student. Supply fee ($11.00 per week) is payable one week in advance to the instructor during the first class.

    Palette Knife Painting Pre: Co: Learn how to apply paint on a variety of surfaces using the palette knife. The palette knife allows artists to express themselves in a two dimensional form that molds the paint and thereby produces a different visual effect from a brush stroke. Please bring to the first class a canvas, minimum size 9x12; water based oil paints, a meduim size palette knife, water container and toweling. Other interesting materials that can be used in palette knife painting will also be discussed and demonstrated in class. It is a fun technique to use in our creative process. For new and experienced artists.

    Experience New England: Literature and Location Pre: Co: Explore the history and traditions of New England through classic literature and field trips to the corresponding locations and/or museums. Read "The Crucible," a play based on the Salem Witch-Trials, "The Widow's War", a story for adults based on life in a Cape Cod fishing village, and selections from Robert Frost's Poems. Optional field trips include a visit to Salem, MA and to the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Good for au pairs and students at the Advanced ESL level. Textbooks required, available at the Danvers Campus bookstore. Students are responsible for transportation and site entry fees for all field trips.

    Let's Paint White Flowers! Pre: Co: In this fun one day watercolor workshop, let's discover how many colors we can add to a white flower and still make it look white! No white paint allowed! We'll explore various methods of saving the white of the paper. All abilities welcome. A materials fee of $5 is payable to the instructor in class.

    Bridal Floristry Pre: Co: Elect: This is a terrific opportunity to learn the "techniques of the trade" in designing all the florals needed for a wedding. Students will begin with basic pieces: corsages, boutonieres, nosegays, pew bows and wristlets. The last three weeks will be dedicated to more intricate projects: bride's bouquet, cascading bridesmaids bouquet, headpieces & hairpieces, altar pieces and centerpiece floral arrange- ments. The instructor will contact each enrolled student to discuss projects and supply fee (which will be paid to the instructor one week in advance). Materials fee range from $6-15 per week, depending upon flowers, florist materials and project selected that week).

    Creative Dried Flowercrafts Pre: Co: Elect: Designing with dried flowers is a clever craft utilizing floral forms, tape, wire, baskets, wreath bases and a lovely selection of dried flowers. Our full-scale projects include a 16" Victorian swag with eucalyptus, silk roses, satin ribbons and select flowers, next an "everlasting flowers" wreath on a straw base (approx. 18" completed). Design a keepsake centerpiece and matching floral wall basket, charming items for yourself or for gift giving. Floral supplies (approx. $10.00 per class) should be paid to the instructor during the first class. Scissors & hot glue gun with glue sticks required.

In this class you can choose from a few designed styles (like Amy Butler) and complete a one-of-a-kind treasure! An $8.00 material fee payable to instructor at first class. Sewing machine required.     Wet on Wet Watercolor Pre: Co: Explore the interesting and unpredictable process of painting with watercolor on wet paper. Create wonderful atmospheres including stormy skies, and clouds using this translucent medium. Focus on brush strokes, composition, color mixing, insight, and individuality. See "Ways with Watercolor" for supply list. A more complete list will be handed out in class.
