    Chinese Brush Painting-Landscapes Pre: Co: The ancient art of Chinese brush painting focuses on the beauty of simplicity, flowing brush strokes and strength of line and composition. Learn to render misty mountains, tranquil waterfalls and inspiring trees using a blend of Oriental and Western techniques. Create paintings of serenity using Chinese watercolor, bamboo brushes, and ink on rice paper. Develop confidence in your painting skill through demonstrations, individual instruction and practice. This class is ideal for students with or without previous art training. Chinese brushes and rice paper can be purchased from the instructor in class.     Using Fine Art for Curriculum Connections Pre: Co: Learn how to use images in Fine Art to encourage children to look and really "see," respond to art orally and in writing, and make connections with the subjects they are expected to learn in school. Teachers, parents and those writing grants for their schools will benefit by exploring and linking with Massachusetts state frameworks in science, social studies, language arts through fine arts. A collegial model will be followed in which students will share their own expertise with the instructor and with each other. Come to class with suggestions of which frameworks we should pursue. Earns 12.5 PDPs, or 15 PDPs for completing an extra credit project.

    A Day of Watercolor Pre: Co: Relax and go with the flow with this introductory watercolor workshop. In class demonstrations will focus on wash techniques, masking, color, transparencies, brush handling and having fun. Bring a 9"x11" 140 lb. hot pressed pad of paper, a watercolor pan set, 2B pencil, number 8, 6 and 3 round watercolor brushes. Open to all skill levels.

    Introductory Drawing Finally, course designed to help you to relax, observe and draw accurately in an informal class setting. This class uses a series of exercises in understanding the techniques for drawing while focusing on basic shapes, indicating light & shadow, perspective and giving a drawn object visual depth. Techniques to enhance your underlying creativity will supplement these drawing exercises. Please bring to class an 18"x 24" newsprint, pad of paper, a 2B pencil a kneaded eraser and small, clean cloth.

    Guitar Pickers Workshop Pre: Co: Elect: These lively guitar sessions encompass a wide variety of strumming and picking styles. This is a relaxed workshop setting where you will learn "flatpicking styles", different approaches to fingerpicking, learn basic lead playing in major and minor keys and have the opportunity to learn from and play with other guitarists. Students are encouraged to bring in material they may be working on individually for pointers and for clarification. Knowledge of most open/basic chords and a willingness to learn new ones required. All levels welcome.
