    Beginning Music Theory I Pre: Co: Elect: An introduction to music theory designed to demystify the musical page. The class will cover concepts of pitch, notation, rhythm, scales, intervals, staves, clefts, musical terminology as well as work on developing elementary aural skills. Geared for those with little or no experience reading music this class will help the participant read music for introductory voice or instrumental study.

    Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the confidence to perform a solo in your church or community choir or sing with your friends at a party without that fearful pit in your stomach? This workshop will help you overcome your inhibitions by learning the secrets that professional singers rely on! Through fun execises, favorite show tunes and popular songs, we will learn about resonance, breathing, posture, relaxation, articulation, and style. Explore the instrument within. You'll be amazed at what you can do. Materials fee of $20 payable at class. Includes 42 page book and 60 minute instructional vocal exercise tape.

    Outdoor Watercolor Workshops Pre: Co: Expeirence the joy of painting summer in New England. Paint with instructor from 9am-1pm with the option of staying as long as you like at the location to complete your painting. The artist will demonstrate briefly and provide individual instruction during the rest of time. No experience needed but lots of enthusiasm for the outdoors. Bring your watercolor supplies and a folding seat or sand chair. If weather is inclement, the workshop will be held at Cummings Center campus. Choose one workshop or both. The July 11th workshop will be held at Salem Willows. The August 15th workshop is at Halibut Point, Rockport. Call for directions at 978-236-1200.

    MFA Sketchbook Pre: Co: Grab your sketchbooks and learn about the treasures in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Each week you will study three artists and work on specific drawing projects in the museum. You will need a 9"x12" sketchbook, 80lb +, 2b, 4b pencils, gummy erasure, and set of 12 Prisma water color pencils. First class meets at the Cummings Center in Beverly, please bring all your materials. Travel and museum fees are the responsibility of the student.

    Faux Finish - Decorative Painting Pre: Co: Elect: Faux finish is the art of transforming a finish to look like the surface of marble or semi-precious stones. This hands on approach will provide each student with a variety of glazes and finishes; suitable for small projects, furniture and interior walls. Enjoy learning this art of decorative painting which will include techniques ie; color washing, dragging & ragging. Faux finish will include semi-precious, lapis-lazuli and marble. A supply fee for paints, brushes, combs, sponges and other essential items will range from $20-25, payable to the instructor during the first class.

    Architecture: Drawing Outdoors Pre: Co: Learn different drawing techniques while learning about Boston architecture. This class will focus on developing a journal of images collected from our walks, both photographed and sketched. Drawing is vital to developing wide range of marks for creating tonal mass and texture. Each student is expected to record scenes and objects both through photographs and studies. These will be assembled in a in a journal. Students will be encouraged to work with a variety of drawing materials from charcoal to pastels. Bring your sketchbook and camera!
