    Slipcovers in a Flash! Pre: Co: Looking for slipcovers that fit as they should? In just one day you can learn the basic skills to make a really attractive slipcover at home for your favorite chair or couch. The instructor will bring her own child-sized chairs to practice on in class. Handouts will enable you to transfer the skills learned in class to your own chair or couch at home, using decorative fabric. Basic sewing skills and familiarity with your sewing machine is necessary. Please bring a bag lunch, your own sewing machine with a regular, and zipper foot, measuring tape, scissors, four yds. of slipcover-weight muslin in a solid color, 18" zipper, thread, white tailor's chalk or pencil, and a metal tape measure. Get hands-on practice and personal instruction in studio sessions with a local TV writer and producer, Henry Dane, who is also a professional freelance cartoonist.     Precious Metal Clay Pre: Co: Making jewelry in precious metal clay is as easy as playing with Play-Doh! Precious metal clay (PMC) is tiny particles of metal and organic binders. Feels like clay, works like clay... but put it in a kiln and it becomes pure metal. We will work with PMC Silver. Everyone in the class goes home with pendants, earrings, necklaces and more! Explore a variety of techniques and materials. Use simple and easily available tools, rubber stamps, buttons, and household objects. You bring your imagination, the instructor brings the kiln.     Faux Finishes - More Advanced Techniques Pre: Co: Move deeper into the world of faux finishing. This experiential course will give you a chance to get hands-on experience in techniques such as Venetian Plaster, advanced antiquing, marbling, and wood-graining. Prerequisite: Basic Faux Finishing class or some faux finishing experience. A materials fee of $25 is payable to the instructor at the first class.

    Painting In the Abstract - Intermediate Pre: Co: Building on the basic components of color, composition, space, motion, and expression, take abstract painting to a deeper level and develop your personal vision. Experiment with a wide variety of materials and methods. Assignments will include color relationships, multi-dimensional compositions, atmospheric perspective, transforming reality, and breaking rules. Learn to stretch your own canvas. Class critiques and discussions are encouraged. Some painting experience helpful, but not required.

    New! Inspired by Nature: Landscape Painting Pre: Co: The first two weeks you will collect information from nature: photographs, drawings, and quick sketches. These studies will culminate in larger paintings in-studio in the following weeks. Study how traditional landscapes have been composed by looking at works by Turner, Sargent, and Constable. Learn how to transform their studies into abstract works of art. See how Hans Hofmann and Paul Klee were inspired by nature in their work. Previous painting experience preferred. First class meets at Cummings Center for first half hour and then at Lynch Park for the rest of time. Bring cameras, sketchbooks, and paints. Open to all mediums except oils.

    Painting People Pre: Co: Have you ever wondered about drawing and painting people? This class aims to give you basic training in anatomy, proportions and drawing faces. We will be working from wooden manikins, photographs and a live model for two weeks. Each week you will build on your understanding of value, proportion and composition. Projects include collages, paintings and sketches--all aiding in your understanding of the human form. You will also be encouraged to paint from family photographs as well as your imagination. Previous drawing or painting experience preferred. Open to all paint mediums except oils. A $10 model fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.
