    History of New England Landscape Design Pre: Co: New England's rich gardening heritage is revealed in this course, with an emphasis on the exceptional gardens of Boston's North Shore. Garden designs of the colonial days through the Arts and Crafts movement are considered. Study leading landscape designers such as Olmsted, Farrand, and Steele.     Drawing Refresher Part I Pre: Co: Open to all who have had some experience drawing or sketching either on their own or through some type of beginning drawing class. Learn to "see" with an artist's eye, exploring line, shape, lights and darks, texture, composition and perspective in our subject matter. Experiment using watercolor and pastels in your drawings. Bring soft vine charcoal, kneaded gray eraser, and newsprint to the first class.

    Drawing Refresher Part II Pre: Co: Build on skills gained from Drawing Refresher I, or from previous experience. Continue to sharpen your artist's eye and learn to see in new ways that will not only enhance your drawing, but also the way you see the world. More emphasis is given to other mediums such as watercolor, pastels or ink, and to our charcoal or pencil drawings to create unique effects. Bring soft vine charcoal, kneaded gray eraser and newsprint to the first class.

    Easy Boutique Knitting Pre: Co: With today's eye-catching new yarns, you don't have to be an expert knitter to make something beautiful and wearable. Once you learn the basic knit stitch, you'll be wearing your first project, a fashionable scarf, in no time. Local boutiques sell these for as much as $95! Bring two skeins of Lion Brand "fun fur" yarn and a set of 10" size 13 needles. Advanced projects will be introduced in the second session for those who want to repeat the class.

    Learn to Play the Keyboard Pre: Co: Did you ever want to learn how to play more than "Chopsticks" on the piano? Here is your chance! In this fun and no stress course, you will learn the basics to get started. The rest is up to you! Each student is required to bring in their own electric keyboard and to purchase the method book for $8.

    Drawing in Color Pre: Co: You can draw! It is simple, natural and fun. Learn how to build shape, texture and line through color. Inspiration can come from the medium being used experiment with watercolor pencils and oil pastels while developing drawing techniques and sharpening your visual skills. Each week will present challenging and creative exercises. Bring a 11x14 sketchbook and 2b pencil to the first class.

    Artist's Studio Acrylic Painting Pre: Co: Painters welcome back to the Artist Studio! This session we will explore techniques from traditional and contemporary artist while working on projects from observation in class. We will be focused on drawing, painting and some critiques. The goal will be to help develop observation skills to which you an apply to yoru individual theme. You are encouraged to bring your own still life objects or photos, if you choose to work on individual projects.

    Painting in the Abstract Pre: Co: The origins of abstract painting began in the early twentieth century with such artists as Picasso and Kandinsky giving rise to the influential Abstract Expressionist movement in America. Painting in the abstract has become a major form of artistic expression since then. This course will explore the basic elements of color, composition, line, space, texture and form to create works that both transform and redefine representational painting. Class includes a field trip to an art museum. Students are responsible to pay a minimal museum fee and provide their own transportation. Materials will include acrylics, watercolors and various drawing mediums. Bring your imagination and a sense of adventure.     Photograph Your Athlete Pre: Co: Learn the basics of sports photography. We will discuss techniques, learn the right film choices, and how to determine the proper exposures and approaches to take when photographing different sports. We will take field trips to sporting events. Events photographed will be determined in class discussion, depending on the schedules of community and school sports, and students' interests and schedules (most school events in spring will be on school days). In the final class we will assess our results, view prints, and discuss challenges we encountered.
