    Artists of Cape Ann Trip Pre: Co: Pack a bag lunch and join artist and educator Paula Beaulieu, M.Ed., for a delightful day of exploration, as you study the artists, present and past, of the North Shore. We'll travel to Gloucester to visit the Cape Ann Historical Museum where we will see the works of Fitz Hugh Lane and many other world-renowned painters. Then, we'll board a ferry and take a tour of Ten Pound Island, where it is said Winslow Homer created 100 paintings during one summer. If you wish, you can create your own memories in watercolor. Paints, paper and brushes will be provided. End the day with a leisurely stroll through Rocky Neck, the oldest art colony in the country and visit some of the artists. Meet at the Cummings Center, 181 Elliot St., in Beverly. Museum admission is $5 and ferry costs $12. A $5 materials fee is payable to the instructor in class.

    The Picture Framing Workshop Pre: Co: Master custom framing and matting techniques employed by the experts. In a do-it-yourself format, traveling framer Larry Glickman will help you to design and frame your prints, graphics, photography, posters, fine art, and needle art. Learn about frame style and design, mat color coordination, conservation framing, mounting, and custom finishing. Open to all skill levels. All materials supplied in class at a 40 percent discount. Cost per project: $40 to $50, depending on size.

    Creative Sampler II Pre: Co: Expand your creativity by experimenting with even more art materials. Continue discoveries made in Creative Sampler, or try them out for the very first time. Here's your opportunity to play, de-stress, and express yourself with more exploration in oils, acrylics, watercolor, tempera, clay, chalk, and print-making. The course also adds Chinese brush painting and papier mache to your repertoire. Explore your latent creativity with artist and educator Paula Beaulieu, M.Ed., each week, while you also learn about famous artists and the techniques they liked to use. A materials fee of $25 per student is payable to the instructor at the first class.

    Monoprint Pre: Co: Create unique, spontaneous images using a hand-rubbed monoprint technique that does not require an etching press or expensive materials. Learn four techniques to jump-start your creativity in this exciting art form. Bring various-sized rectangles of clear plexiglass, water-based print-making inks, brushes, Rives BFK white paper, a water jar and rags.

    Sketching Beverly's Beauty Pre: Co: Capture the charm of one of the North Shore's unique towns by the sea, as you sketch in selected outdoor locations in Beverly. Class will cover broad concepts such as composition, light and shadow, and drawing techniques with personal instruction. Bring your pastels, colored pencils, markers, or media of your choice. First class meets at the Cummings Center in Beverly, before moving outdoors.

    Watercolor Painting/Relaxation Weekend Workshop Pre: Co: Connect with your creativity through painting and relaxation at a weekend retreat. Stay in a cozy chalet nestled among the pines, minutes from beautiful Lake Ossipee, NH. Here, you'll learn watercolor techniques as you paint picturesque New England mountain scenes with educator/artist Paula Beaulieu, M.Ed. In the evening, de-stress, as you learn relaxation techniques taught by Reiki Master Jean DeThomas, RN.     On Location: "Landscapes in Essex" with Jana Conway Pre: Co: Catch the morning light with an "on location" photo shoot that will include such topics as: choice of subject matter; learning to "see" what your lens sees; framing images; choosing the correct outdoor light with or without flash fill; and composition that creates visually appealing images. The photo shoot will last 2 1/2 hours, with input from the instructor. Class will meet in the parking lot of Woodman's Restaurant, on Rte 133, in Essex. Students from all of the "On Location" trips are invited to bring developed photos to a follow-up class at the Cummings Center on August 4th, from 9 to 11am, to share and discuss your results.

    On Location: "Landscapes in Annisquam" with Jana Conway Pre: Co: Catch the morning light in quaint Annisquam Village with an "on location" photo shoot that will include such topics as: choice of subject matter; learning to "see" what your lens sees; framing images; choosing the correct outdoor light with or without flash fill; and composition, to create visually appealing images. The photo shoot will last 2 1/2 hours, with constructive input from the instructor. Class will meet in the parking lot at Gloucester High School. On Rte 128, take the first exit off the second rotary, to School House Road. Students from all of the "On Location" trips are invited to bring developed photos to a follow-up class at the Cummings Center on August 4th, from 9 to 11am, to share and discuss your results.
