    Soapmaking - Basic Pre: Co: Explore the methods involved in making old-fashioned, hand-milled, natural soap. Learn each step of the "cold process" method of soap-making; various molding techniques including the rebatching process;and the history of soapmaking. Discuss aromatherapy and herbal benefits as related to soapmaking. Using basic soap-making techniques, you will make a minimum of two different soap recipes. A $30.00 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first meeting. Please bring safety goggles and rubber gloves with you to the first class.

    Drawing Made Easy - Session II Pre: Co: Session II builds on Session I drawing skills. Learn about new materials and examine contemporary approaches to drawing. Explore line, shape, value, form, perspective, texture, and composition in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Please bring an 18" x 14" newsprint pad of paper, soft vine charcoal, a kneaded eraser, and a small rag. Open to anyone with previous drawing experience.

    Digital Painting/Photo Manipulation - NEW!! Pre: Co: An exploration of painting, with respect to drawing and design elements, and the creative use of the computer and its unique editing capabilities. With stylus and tablet tools we will simulate paper and canvas textures and a large variety of drawing and painting media.

    Figure Drawing - NEW!! Pre: Co: Improve your drawing skills and learn to use proportion and gesture to create compelling figure drawings. Class will draw live models, using charcoal, pencils, and assorted media. All levels welcome. A $5.00 model fee for each class, is payable to the instructor.

    Portrait Drawing/Painting Pre: Co: Capture a likeness and improve your drawing skills in this portrait class. Study proportion, light, shadow, and line, to create compelling portraits. Class will use live models, drawing with charcoal, pencils, and pastel. All levels welcome. A $5.00 model fee is payable to the instructor for each class.

    On Location: "Landscapes at Moraine Farm" Pre: Co: Two field trips held on two different dates: one to photograph the sunrise, one to take advantage of the mid-morning light, capturing two different moods and light conditions at Beverly's Moraine Farm. Topics of discussion will include: choice of subject matter, learning to "see" what your lens sees, framing images, choosing the correct outdoor light with or without flash fill, and composition, to create visually appealing images. The "on location" photo shoot will last 2 1/2 hours with constructive input from the instructor. Please include your phone number when registering so the instructor can contact you. Students from all "On Location" trips are invited to a follow-up class at the Cummings Center on May 17, from 9-11 AM, where you'll bring developed photos to share and discuss..

    Polymer Clay Jewelry - NEW!! Create unique and beautiful jewelry using polymer clay and other materials. Design beads for necklaces and bracelets and learn modeling techniques for pins. Bring your own special embellishment materials to add a unique look and create pieces you will be proud to wear or give to your family and friends.     Folk Art With Acrylics Pre: Co: Learn techniques for painting colorful folk art designs. Each time the course is offered, a different project will be created using acrylic paints on canvas or wood. This time, the project will be a seacoast scene painted on a barrel stave.     Soapmaking - Advanced Pre: Co: Explore the steps involved in creating an all-natural soap recipe. Choose ingredients and determine the correct proportions needed to make soap, using your recipe. Discuss properties of individual ingredients will be discussed. Recommended for students with soapmaking experience (not of the melt and pour variety) or completion of a basic soapmaking course. Students must bring safety goggles and rubber gloves to class. A $25.00 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first meeting.
