    Collage/Assemblage "Collage" can be defined as a process by which diverse elements are brought together to form a cohesive whole. This course offers an exploration of both collage (2D) and assemblage (3D) work. Class projects focus on a wide variety of concepts, techniques and materials. Please bring recycled magazines (or scraps of colored paper), glue, scissors and paper to first day of class. Open to all skill levels.

    Landscapes of the North Shore Learn how to paint with watercolors while enjoying the outdoors. Students will paint an impression of nature - watercolor landscape sketches - exploring composition, form, tone and color, receiving individual instruction in a group setting. Fundamentals of watercolor techniques will be stressed using a basic landscape watercolor palette. Class meets outside at various locations, transportation is necessary. First class will meet at the Cummings Center. Please bring a sketchbook, eraser and 2b pencil for the first day of class. All levels of experience welcome.

    Outdoor Watercolor Painting Pre: Co: Experience the joys of painting outdoors, or "en plein air," as the French say. As the summer season unfolds, sharpen your visual awareness and appreciation of nature. First class meets indoors at the Cummings Center. Each week we will discuss the location for the following week. Transportation is necessary. Please call (978) 236-1200 to request a materials list at least one week before the first class.

    Fun with Stones, Symbols and Making Your Own Amulet Explore the meanings of stones and symbols and how they may be meaningful to you. Do stones really have energies and power? Can they heal? What is an amulet and how can it be helpful? In the afternoon enjoy a hands-on workshop where you can choose a project(s), select your stones based on what you learned in the morning and assemble it. Materials Fee: $20. For semi-precious stones and findings to make pins or pendants for 2 or 3 simple projects (payable in class).

    Jump Start Your Drawing Pre: Co: Spring into action by making 80 drawings in one day. Projects are designed to help you express yourself through drawing as you develop your skills and confidence. Explore line, shape, value, form, perspective, texture, and composition in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Please bring to class an 18"x24" newsprint pad of paper, 80 sheets of white paper (such as photocopy or computer paper), soft vine charcoal (large and medium), a kneaded eraser, and a small cloth. Open to all skill levels.

    Art Exploration & Famous Artists Would you like to learn more about art and its various forms and some of the artists who have shaped history? Do you avoid art galleries and museums because you consider it out of your league? Have you ever had a yen for trying out different materials but didn't know where to start? Then, this course is for you. Each week you will be introduced to a new artist and then have a chance to explore creating, using subject matter and techniqes of the artist and various media to produce your own impressions. The last class will be a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to see the works of some of the artists we have studied. A $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class. Admission to the museum is the students' responsibility.
