This course will provide an inclusive overview of administrative skills and procedures needed by a front office employee in any health care setting. Topics covered include: entry-level computing skills which will enable the students to maintain patient charts, accounts receivable and payable coding of insurance forms, preparing comprehensive billing and scheduling appointments. All of the above mentioned will be viewed in paper format and then logically transferred to computerized medical software.

    The Art of Relaxation Pre: Co: The key to relaxing is not in ignoring the issue or taking a magic pill to get rid of the pain; rather, it is in opening to the possibility that stress is not the whole of you. In this workshop, we use art as a tool for identifying judgements and preferences that block relaxation, and learn to release thes critical attitudes through yoga and mindfulness meditation. No art experience is necessary. Please bring paper or a scetchbook, markers, colored pencils, oil pastels, or whatever media you like to use.

    The Mind, Body, Spirit Connection to Recovery Pre: Co: The goals of this course are to increase participants understanding of mind, body, spirit connection relevant to addiction and recovery. Students will gain increased awareness of the impact of addictions on the whole being. The first component of the course educates participants of the effects of negative thinking, unwanted emotions and the self-defeating behaviors that promote and perpetuate the addiction process. The second component of the course concentrates on positive reinforcement (focusing on competencies), cognitive techniques (learned optimism), and promoting self-enhancing behaviors. The course is designed as a two day workshop, however, each component may be taken separately. Two day workshop cost: $199. One day workshop cost: $129.

Yoga can dramatically retard, even reverse the tendency to stiffen as you age. You can regain the suppleness of youth and become more flexible, durable and stronger. This class teaches the primary series of ashtanga yoga and is suited to beginners as well as experienced practionners of yoga.

The goals of the course are to increase participants understanding, awareness and skill level in dealing with the different issues women face with addiction and recovery. This course would be appropriate for male counselors, staff members, therapists, etc. who may have women clients. The course will address important therapeutic issues relating to the relationship between the male staff members and the women clients. The second day of the workshop focuses on the current barriers to effective treatment as well as the special issues women face in recovery. In addition, several different recovery program models will be explored.
