Jr. Book Club Step aside, Oprah. There's a new book club in town. Each week, the class will select a different book to read for pleasure and then the instructor will lead a discussion that is based on the participants' interests. Who was your favorite character? How did the setting influence the events that took place? Does the material relate to your current world? The possibilities are endless as you dive into books of your own choosing. You won't even have to produce a book report or any other work to be graded! Just bring along your ideas and opinions.

Self-Defense for Teenage Girls (ages 13-17) Pre: Co: Even in these days of increased security and watchfulness, people should learn skills that will protect them as individuals. In this course, participants will learn not only physical techniques that can be used to ward off an attacker, but also strategies that will prevent a confrontation from ever occurring. So, young ladies, put on comfortable clothes and shoes and prepare to master some life-long, and, possibly, life-saving, skills taught by an experienced female instructor.

Digital Photography & Photoshop (Ages: 13-17) Pre: Co: Learn the basics of digital photography, compositions, lighting, depth of field and how to use digital settings. Discover the basics of using a computer to process your digital photos, learn all about using Adobe Photoshop. If you own a digital camera, bring it along.

3-D Photography (Ages13-17) Pre: Co: Explore the cutting edge world of one of the lastest trends in 3D imaging, and 3-D photography. 3-D is practical and fun; it might even be profitable. Use a disposable or your own digital camera as we work inside and outside of the classroom. Join us and see the world differently. A $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.

Understanding Money This program focuses on monetary topics that are age- appropriate for the participating students. In addition to practicing prioritizing expenditures and budgeting for sample families, we will also learn about bank accounts, saving, credit cards and debt. We will address investing and how the volatility of the economy and the stock market could influence life-changing decisions, such as what career to prepare for and where to invest money earned at a job or received as gifts.

Speaking in Front of a Group (ages 13-17) Pre: Co: Improve your assertiveness and presentation skills in this class that is designed to help participants grow more comfortable speaking in front of others in numerous situations that might occur in a social setting, at the front of a classroom or on stage. We will explore different techniques that would be used in groups of different sizes, ages, etc. We will also address the importance of non-verbal communication and good listening skills.
