This course covers topics in bankruptcy, hybrid financing (preferred stock, leasing, warrants, and convertibles), mergers, leveraged buy outs, divestitures, holding companies. In addition, this course covers corporate accounting and taxation topics. Prerequisite: FI 315A. Two hours per week.

This course examines the practical issues involved in constructing and managing active and passive portfolios. Topics include investment process, investment strategy, behavioral finance and technical analysis, performance evaluation, and international investing. This course includes a portfolio construction and analysis project. Prerequisite: FI 325A. Two hours per week.

An independent study course for superior senior students under the direction of a faculty member. Approval must be obtained from the chair and the faculty member involved. By appointment. (This course would substitute for two 2 cr. electives)

This course is offered for students with little or no background in French. Oral-aural proficiency is acquired through speaking and role playing in class plus audio and visual practice outside of class. Students learn basic strategies for reading and writing in the language. Three hours a week, two semesters.

A continuation of the elementary course. In-depth study of grammar. Readings of short texts from French and Francophone literature and civilization, along with articles of contemporary relevance. Prerequisite FR 112A or the equivalent. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week, two semesters.

Students will read, analyze and discuss in French appropriate articles from the most recent issues of French newspapers and periodicals in order to know the contemporary issues and interests of France and French speaking nations. Appropriate background readings, lectures, videotaped interviews in French will integrate up-to-the-minute readings with the broad historical, social, and cultural backgrounds of the topics in question. Prerequisite: FR 202A or equivalent. Recommended as a cultural course for qualified international business students. May be counted in the French major or minor. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week.

Designed for students who have, in college or high school, completed the equivalent of Intermediate French. Improvement of student’s oral communication in idiomatic French. Improvement of written French through frequent structured compositions and reports, accompanied by an in-depth review of grammar. Discussions and oral presentations on selected representative texts from French and Francophone literature and culture, or relevant topics from contemporary French films. Prerequisite: FR 202A or the equivalent. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week, two semesters.

A study of the main currents of French literature through a reading of representative texts of each period to provide a general knowledge of the literary history of France. Oral and written reports. Prerequisite: FR 302A or the equivalent or an adequate reading knowledge of French. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week, two semesters.

A study of major themes or genres in 20th century French or Francophone literature through a reading of representative texts in the original language. Texts and topics may vary from year to year. Prerequisite: FR 302A or equivalent, or an adequate reading knowledge of French. Either semester may be elected independently. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week, two semesters.

A history of French civilization from its beginning to the present. The course will deal with the geography and history of France: the people; their manners and customs; their political, social and economic life; and their culture as reflected in the arts, sciences, philosophy, literature, music and education. Either semester may be elected independently. Prerequisite: FR302A or the equivalent, or an adequate reading knowledge of French. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week, two semesters.
