Describes and analyzes the structure, conduct and performance of industries. Includes the nature of the firm, industry and markets, and the regulation of industry. Prerequisite: EC 201A. Satisfies the social science distribution requirement. Three hours a week.

Emphasizes the economic implications of a nation’s international relations including why nations engage in trade, what constraints trade, the evolution of international economical relations and institutions, and the formation of economic trading blocs. Centers on the economic-political and social problems of the developing nations. Topics: a survey of development theories; an inquiry in the nature of developed vs. underdeveloped; policy options; institutional constraints; the role of trade, the multinational corporation; agriculture and technology. Prerequisites: EC 201A, 202A, or consent of the instructor. Satisfies the social science distribution requirement. Three hours a week.

Students do research in a particular facet of an area in economics. Emphasizes in-depth research, its methods, and presentation of the results. Prerequisites: EC 201A, 202A.

In lieu of a formal course, qualified upper class students, with the approval of the chair, substitute an intensive program of reading under the direction of a member of the department.

6.00 Credits
Student interns are placed in either public or private entities where they assist in applied economic research. They are expected to spend 10 hours per week on site and also are expected to write a research paper under the direction of one of the Economic Department’s faculty members. Available to Seniors with Departmental approval. Majors electing EC 495A must take nine additional Economics courses.

Examines the biological, cognitive and social changes associated with development, birth through early adolescence, with a particular focus on implications for K-5 teachers. Topics include: change and development in social knowledge, Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, contributions of culture and family system. Requirements include informal observation, research paper, and in-class presentations. Three hours a week.

Prerequisite: enrollment in Teacher Preparation Program; junior standing Elementary Education and Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8) minors must register for this concurrently with one of the following methods courses: ED 331, ED 332, ED 333, ED 334, or ED 335. Middle and Secondary School minors must register for this concurrently with ED 321 Educational Psychology. 30 hours.
