2 credits Study of shamanism through A variety of cultures and disciplines including anthropology, psychology, physiology and healing, ecology, and music, art, and ritual. The interface of traditional shamanic ideas and cultures with our modern culture and lives is examined.

3 credits Analysis of contemporary and historical patterns, images, myths, and practices that women draw on to express that which is sacred to them. Examination of diverse women's sociocultural relationships with religion and personal and political dimensions of what they understand as "spirituality," whether practiced individually orcommunally.

3 credits Consideration of current research about changes in the aging body. Topics include reassessing body image, sexuality, systems of the body, mobility, and nutrition. The course integrates research and experiential perspectives with considerations of gender, ethnicity, and class.

3 credits Consumers of the entitlement and public support systems in the United States include people with elderly parents, workers in elder services, and older people. This course focuses on developing the relevant awareness and skills for advocating within these systems. Ethical dilemmas that arise from these interactions are explored.
