3 credits Students work on A variety of more complex design projects, producing sets of materials and pieces with specific, practical communication goals. Emphasis is placed on working in A collaborative environment, similar to situations encountered in design studios. There is A choice of portfolio appropriate projects, but responsibility is placed on the students to organize their time and resources in A productive manner. Prerequisites: IDESN 3210, IDESN 3510.

3 credits This course is an introduction to business and professional practices, providing seniors with tools to deal with design as A business, as well as an opportunity to clarify their own professional goals. The course includes interviews with practicing designers, preparation of A business plan, and presentations by leading design professionals. Prerequisites: IDESN 2560, IDESN 3200.

3 credits A series of three visiting designers for each student present a project related to the student's area of specialization. Visitors are from the professional design community and work with A regular faculty member to coordinate their projects, which may include: poster design, book or publication design, type design, broadcast design, interactive or web design, environmental design, or other specialties. Prerequisites: IDESN 3210, IDESN 3510.

3 credits The internship program provides Design majors with experience in A professional environment, helping to prepare them for entry into the job market. As members of A design team, interns put their technical and creative knowledge to work and have the chance to make professional connections within the design community. To obtain credit, students must register for the course and meet with the internship advisor prior to getting their internship. Positions generally last 15 weeks. Prerequisites: IDESN 3150, IDESN 3210, IDESN 3510. Independent Study 1.5-3 credits Course number is assigned when paperwork is submitted to the Office of Student Services. An opportunity for students to pursue advanced study in A pre-defined area with A particular instructor. Students must complete Independent Study forms and obtain permission from the instructor and Department Chair before registration.

1.5 credits This class introduces students to A variety of materials and techniques used by 3-D artists. The emphasis of the class is on learning the technical skills needed to create objects using wood, sheet metal, foam core, cold glass, fabric, and natural and man-made found objects.

1.5 credits An investigation of the issues and interests artists have in drawing through an intense study of these three parts of the body. A variety of drawing mediums are used.

1.5 credits This class enables the painter who wishes to learn basic carpentry skills to make painting stretchers and simple frames. The course also shows how to make braced panels to paint on.

3 credits The figure, stilllife and landscape are studied in an exploration of seeing and markmaking. The essential forms of nature in terms of volume and space are revealed in the play of light an dark. A variety of drawing materials and formats are used.

3 credits Traditional motifs are the starting point for discoveries of the possibilities available for expression in drawing media. Emphasis is on the play between abstraction and representation.

3 credits The instructor of this class posts A course description at the time of registration. This allows the faculty to design unique drawing courses of concerns or media tailored to both their interests and those of the students. The class may be media, subject or concept based, abstract or figurative. Sophomores, juniors and seniors may take these classes as A Fine Arts Major Course, or as A Studio Elective. Prerequisites are determined by the instructor.
