    Offered Periodically Building upon concepts learned in Web Page Design, this course will introduce the student to various ways to create web animation, including animated GIF’s, banner ads, and web pages. Students will be introduced to and utilize the various drawing, graphics, and animation programs currently used in web pagecreation. Specific software programs will include Macromed in a Flash, Dreamweaver, and Photo Editor. (Same course as AC 3520). Prerequisite: AC/GD 2768.

    Alternate Spring Semesters Next: Spring 2008 A continuation of skills learned in Graphic Design, this courseexplores advanced principles of visual communication in advertising and graphic design. The focus of the course is designing with image and type using the computer. Students develop the skills and understanding necessary to manipulate type. (Same course as AC 3770). Prerequisites: GD 2770; AC/GD/VA 2738 or AC/GD/VA 2760.

    Fall Semester This course will introduce students to the use of typography in Graphic Design and to a variety of production methods used to produce finished work. The class will explore how type is used with visual elements. Students will learn basic letter forms and major type families and how to use them with imagery in assigned projects. Students will be exposed to a variety of production techniques, design and production philosophies. (Same course as AC 3775). Prerequisites: VA 1770, and GD 2970, and AC/COM/GD 2766 or AC/COM/GD 2769. Not open to students who hav taken AC/VA 2775.

    Fall Semester The capstone course for the visual arts and graphic design majors focuses broadly on aesthetics and specifically on the nature of an integrated perspective on the arts, with specific attention to the various visual arts, such as graphic design, studio art, photography, and film. It provides an opportunity for students to articulate their own informed philosophies of art while synthesizing their prior learning and experience. Philosophies of art and beauty, from Plato through the twentieth century, provide the basis for exploration in the arts and for how such study informs the complexities inherent in the decision making process regarding contemporary issues in the arts, for instance for arts organizations, government funding, censorship, the arts in public education, and the making of judgments regarding the role of art in society. This course is the required CLAC capstone course for visual arts and graphic design majors and is open to all other majors. (Same course as VA 3980). Prerequisite: FA1000 and junior standing.

    Fall and Spring Semesters This course will introduce the student to all the major areas of health and how they affect their lives. Health promotion, wellness and empowerment will be discussed and analyzed in relation to each health component. Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of the importance their personal decisions make on their health. This course satisfies the wellness requirement.

    Offered Periodically Presentation of the first aid skills that are applicable to accidents, injuries and illnesses seen commonly at home, work, recreation or while traveling. CPR is included. Certificates in first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR are awarded upon successful completion of this course. Fee.

    Fall Semester This course is designed for health majors and others interested in the promotion of health behavior and lifestyles, which contribute to the reduction of risk factors associated with human morbidity and mortality. Emphasis is placed upon complex community health issues and settings, as well as disease prevention and prolonging life. Topics include, but are limited to, historical perspectives of community health, local health departments, solving community health problems, community health; methods & materials, chronic disease, communicable disease, safety education, mental health environment, health & sanitation, radiological health, and organization & administration of official, voluntary and private agencies. Prerequisite: HE 1000.

    Spring Semester This course will allow the student to develop health education curricula and teaching strategies for individuals and groups across the life span and in a variety of settings. Based on an understanding of the breadth and depth of health education content and the health educator role, responsibilities and competencies, students will explore curricular design theory, health education need assessments, instructional strategies, learner characteristics, teaching materials and aids, learning environments, and evaluation methods. Health education ethics will also be explored. Prerequisite: HE 1000.

    Spring Semester Consumer issues related to personal and community health in a variety of settings are identified and analyzed. Major areas explored are the health marketplace, health care, consumer protection, nutrition, major illnesses, health products and services, quackery, personal choices, alternatives to traditional health care, critical analysis of literature, historical perspectives, health policy, terminology, legislation, ethics and trends. Health education interventions and strategies are explored. Prerequisite: HE 1000.
