Spring Semester What makes the French French? This course examines aspects of French ideology and culture such as: values, literature, education, the arts, society, politics, and religion. Taught in English. No previous study of French required. This course satisfies the international/ multicultural requirement. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or departmental approval.

Fall Semester This course emphasizes the development of basic communication skills in the French language: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. Attention is given to grammatical structure, oral pronunciation, and vocabulary building. Students will also be introduced to French culture. Includes a lab requirement of one session per week on a TBA basis. No previous study of French required. This course (in conjunction with FR 1020) satisfies the international/multicultural requirement. Not open to native speakers.

Fall and Spring Semesters A course in which students work on the staff of the College newspaper, The Currier Times, either in writing, photography, or production. Students are required to attend weekly news meetings. (Same course as COM 1501, ENG 1501). Prerequisite: A freshman-level writing course or basic photography course.

Alternate Spring Semesters Next: Spring 2009 Explores how the computer can be used as tool to make art. Through class projects, students will create both images that are generated entirely on a computer and images made by integrating traditional art making techniques with digital components. Students are encouraged to think conceptually and creatively. While developing images, students practice formal design principles and communicate their ideas visually. (Same course as AC 2072, VA 2072). Fee . Prerequisite: VA 1770 or VA 1800, and AC/GD 2742 or AC/GD 2738.

Fall and Spring Semesters Students investigate news events and write for The Currier Times. Other assignments may include feature writing, sports writing, and arts and entertainment reviews. Students are required to attend the weekly staff meeting. (Same course as COM 2501, ENG 2501). Prerequisites: ENG 1280 or 1290, ENG 2900; GD 1501.

Fall and Spring Semesters Sub-editors will generate story ideas, edit stories, produce and edit photography, supervise reporters, proofread copy, and assist in layout. Sub-editors report directly to the editor and must attend the weekly two-hour staff meeting. (Same course as COM 2506, ENG 2506). Prerequisites: GD 1501, GD 1502; COM/ENG 2900, and six (6) credits of English at the 1000-level. Subject to approval of the editor and the faculty advisor of The Currier Times.

Fall and Spring Semesters An introduction to state-of-the-art computer imaging technology. Explores the role of the computer in expanding photographic vision and expression. Students will provide their own photographs for digital transfer and reconstruction in Adobe Photoshop? software. (Same course as AC 2738, VA 2738). Prerequisite: Any 3-credit AC course. Fee.

Digital media is a critical focus in organizational behavior and electronic business. Utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, students will develop the techniques involved in scanning images and vector graphics. The Photoshop component will include scanning and manipulating images. The Illustrator portion exposes the students to the drawing tools used in a vector graphics program. Graphic file formats will include various ways to save, compress and utilize files on the Web. Students will create and analyze graphic components that will be used for solving a complex development or marketing strategy. (Same course as AC 2742). Prerequisite: AC/GD/VA 2738 and AC/GD/VA 2760.
