Offered Periodically This course provides a context for the use of technology as a tool in the classroom, for the educator as well as the student. A brief history of the evolution of technology in the classroom is included, as well as a close look at current and emerging technology in the classroom for the effective utilization of all resources. Hardware and software systems and programs are demonstrated as a means of providing access to the general curriculum for all students and as effective record keeping, organizational and curricular management tool for the educator. The course provides a basis for the introduction of the implementation of technology as a support and benefit to the classroom. (Same course as AC 2221). Prerequisite: PSY 1400 and one course in education or permission of instructor. Signature. Fee: $30.00

Spring Semester This course focuses on the care and teaching of infants and toddlers in group settings. The developmental characteristics of children from birth to age three will be the basis for planning developmentally appropriate learning experiences, organizing the physical environment, and recognizing the importance of the teacher-child relationship. This course will fulfill the O.C.C.S. coursework requirement for Infant-Toddler Lead Teacher, as well as serve as an elective for Education Majors. Prerequisites: PSY 1400, ED 2161.

Students will be expected to demonstrate leadership in planning and implementing mentoring activities, establishing and maintaining communication with schools and agencies involved in the mentoring partnership, and developing resources for support of mentor/mentee matches. In continuing mentoring relationships students will be expected to demonstrate advanced levels of insight into the mentoring process. (Same course as COM 2351). Fall Semester This course provides an overview of developmentally appropriate practices for integrating the creative arts into early childhood programs. (Pre-K-2). The arts are explored as an important vehicle for enhancing self-esteem, literacy, and cognitive and socio-emotional development. Students will be expected to design developmentally appropriate activities for young children, and to demonstrate an ability to integrate the arts into all areas of the curriculum.
