Fall and Spring Semesters Course will cover historic and current issues in the communications business. Students will present abstracts on a chosen topic, demonstrate competent use of electronic and traditional research techniques, and complete a major paper. This is the only required senior seminar for communication majors.

Spring and Fall Semesters Provides a summary and critique of the major perspectives, conceptualizations, hypotheses, models, and philosophical analysis which constitute current thinking about communication. A research paper is required. Prerequisite: COM 1010.

Spring and Fall Semesters This course provides an overview of the research process and examines various types of research methods as they relate to the study of human communication. Prerequisite: COM 1010 and junior standing or permission of instructor.

1.00 - 8.00 Credits
Fall and Spring Semesters Within the first ten days of the semester, a student of at least junior class standing contracts in writing with a faculty tutor in the communication area for a supervised individual project. A copy of any tape or film produced for the studio is deposited permanently in the office of the area coordinator before the final grade is given. Prerequisites: Junior class standing, declared communication major or minor, 2.8 cumulative average in communication, nine credits at the 2000- or 3000-level in communication, and permission of the communication area chairperson and the tutor.

1.00 - 3.00 Credits
Fall and Spring Semesters Students who wish to do a reading in a special topic not covered by any course or wish to deal in depth with a specific topic may, under the guidance of a faculty member from that area, elect Independent Readings. Prerequisites: Sophomore, junior, or senior standing, a 3.0 average in the subject area, and at least a 2.7 cumulative average.

3.00 - 12.00 Credits
Fall and Spring Semesters Provides experience in the media in a specific position. Required are a contract, a journal, a critical paper, and regular meetings with the on-campus supervisor. Prerequisites: EXP 2340, appropriate cumulative average, and signature of director of field experience.

Fall and Spring Semesters Student has complete responsibility for publishing the student newspaper on a regular schedule. Duties include supervising sub-editors and reporters, assigning and editing stories, proofreading, overseeing the design and layout, advertising and business functions, and acting as liaison with the newspapers readers, and other staff and administrators. (Same course as ENG 4561, GD 4561).

Fall and Spring Semesters For the first-time ballet student, basic ballet technique is taught in simple, understandable terms. Students will be required to have or purchase appropriate dancewear and ballet shoes.

Spring Semester This course offers a basic introduction to vocabulary and technique for the beginning jazz dancer. Styles include classical jazz and lyrical combinations. Students will be required to have or purchase appropriate dancewear and jazz shoes.

Fall Semester This course uses warm-up exercises and movement improvisation to improve fitness, flexibility, strength, and powers of observation. Helpful for actors or anyone wishing to move more freely. Requires no dance training. Students will be required to have or purchase footwear reserved for wear only in the dance studio.
