Alternate Spring Semesters Spring 2008, 2010 COM 3660 offers students the opportunity to learn about nonentertainment and corporate video and other popular media from both producer and client viewpoints. The traditional corporate media forms such as sales, marketing, training, non-profit, employee communications, and motivation will be explored. Students design individual projects from initial concept and proposal through script and casting. Multimedia and broadcast applications will also be explored. Prerequisite: COM 1010.

Continuing Education Schedule Combines key elements of public speaking and business presentations with a business focus designed for working adults. Students design, write, and deliver business presentations, client pitches and proposals, for internal and external applications, in multiple formats, and for multiple distribution channels. Working in MS Word and PowerPoint, students create presentations from needs analysis/proposal, concept and design, through scriptwriting and delivery for small and large professional business audiences. Prerequisite: Competency in MS Word and PowerPoint.

Spring Semesters 2008/2009 Students will produce and direct advanced projects in the television studio. Emphasis will be placed on scripting, set design, Catalog 2007-08 53 and leadership/teamwork skills in creating live-on-tape productions including “how to” programming and public serviceannouncements. Prerequisite: COM 2740.

Fall and Spring Semesters Students will produce, direct, and host various programs for CC8, the Curry College television station. A regularly scheduled newscast, “Curry Prime Time Report”, will also be producedunder faculty and student supervision. Prerequisite: COM 2740 or permission of instructor. Students may repeat TV Practicum up to five times.

Spring Semesters 2008/2009 This class will explore the skills necessary to be an effective onair talent in the studio. Special emphasis will be placed on vocal delivery and interviewing techniques for studio-based productions. Prerequisite: COM 2740.

Fall and Spring Semesters Designed for students who have taken Video Field Production, this class will explore the skills necessary to be an effective on-air talent in the field. Special emphasis will be placed on news reporting, interviewing, vocal delivery, and scriptwriting/production skills as it pertains to single-camera field production. Prerequisite: COM 2760 or permission of the instructor.

Fall 2007, Spring 2010 The course will examine the transition that occurred when television exploded onto the scene in the 1950s and early 1960s. this is considered to be television’s “golden age”. Emphasis wilbe placed on how television’s arrival forced the radio, movie and journalism industries to change their economic models to survive. The changes in the American psyche, and its impact on the culture as a result of television will be analyzed. Programming samples will be provided for discussion and review.

Fall 2009, Spring 2011 Students will learn how to direct multiple-camera advanced productions including live newscasts, performance/sports genres, and commercials/PSAs. Site visits to see actual directors and hands-on projects will show students the visual, writing and production procedures necessary to create quality live programming. Prerequisite: COM 2740.

Offered periodically This course offers advanced projects using filters, transitions, green screen and other video effects that are common in the television and film industry. Prerequisites: AC/COM 2761 and COM 2760, or permission of instructor.

Alternate Spring Semesters Spring 2009, 2011 Course will cover vital issues facing broadcasters in the United States. Focus will be on deregulation, re-regulation, free speech (violence and obscenity) scarce resources, free enterprise and public interest. Prerequisites: COM 1710, junior or senior standing.
