The Community Field Experience is conducted in a combination of outpatient based nutrition program settings and long term care settings. This course is a hands on practicum that emphasizes the implementation of nutritional care in community and long term care settings. Students will participate in two different community based nutrition programs selected from the WIC program, the National School Nutrition program, the Area Agency on Aging Senior Nutrition program, the Cooperative Extension, and the Portland based Project on Supported Living. Additionally, students will complete a rotation at a long term care setting, focusing on the delivery of nutrition care and the administrative functions of a food service department. A minimum of 180 contact hours is required for completion of this rotation. Prerequisite(s): DT 107; NUT 211; Corequisite: DT 202.
