3 hours This course presents a study of human growth and development from the prenatal period through late adulthood. Areas of development addressed will include physical, intellectual, social, faith, and personality. Though the scope of human growth and development will be presented, each student will select an age range on which to focus during the semester. 3 hours Study of learning theory with special application to the processes of the formal teaching learning environment. It is one of the foundational disciplines in education. Consideration will be given to the principles, processes, and practices that research and experience indicate are most pertinent to the development and training of effective teachers. The scope will include personality theory, cognitive growth, learning theory, motivation, and instructional objectives. 3 hours A study of the issues presented to the person serving as a pastoral counselor. The theological basis for this unique and vital ministry will provide the foundation for discussing counseling approaches, ethics, and a wide variety of situations (including spiritual direction, marriage counseling, and crisis counseling) the pastoral counselor will face.
