A topic of current interest in theatre will be taught. Topics will vary depending on faculty interest. Course will be offered upon the request of a faculty member and with approval of the vice president for academic affairs.

A further exploration of the skills acquired in Directing I including conceptualization of period and non-realistic plays; continuing development of leadership skills with actors, and collaboration skills used with playwrights, designers, and producers. Additional production work is required. Prerequisite: THE 220 or consent of instructor. Spring, even academic years.

A study based on reading and discussion of significant plays ranging from ancient Greece to 19th century Europe and America, with focus on changing theatrical and dramatic conventions and how they reflect cultural changes. Same as ENG 349. Prerequisite: ENG 117, THE 110, THE 125 or consent of instructor. Spring, odd academic years.

A study and discussion of significant plays ranging from the late 19th century to the present, with focus on the establishment of realism as a norm, the reactions to realism, and the eclecticism of drama today. Works by African, African-American, Asian-American, Latino, and Native American playwrights will be studied. Research paper will be required. Same as ENG 350. Satisfies intercultural exploratory requirement. Prerequisite: ENG 118 or THE 125 or consent of instructor. Fall, even academic years.

A study of significant works of dramatic literature of the past 20-30 years examining the contribution of non-traditional voices, such as women, African-Americans, gays and lesbians, Hispanic-Americans, and Asian-Americans, who were previously unheard. This course examines plays that have had a significant impact on the contemporary American Theatre, either through innovations in form or style, or through content that reflects the complexity and diversity of contemporary American society. In addition, students will explore the influence of Non-Western forms of theatre including theatre forms from Japan, China, Africa, and India. Same as ENG 351. Satisfies intercultural exploratory requirement. Prerequisite: ENG 118 or THE 110 or THE 125 or consent of instructor. Fall, odd academic years.

This senior seminar guides the student through a survey of career paths in the theatre, the preparation of materials for their professional portfolio, an exploration of the individual's career goals, and an examination of professional business practices. Theatre majors of all interests (directing, acting, design, education, management, or playwriting) will be prepared through written and experiential work to make the transition into the professional world of theatre arts or graduate school experiences. Fall.
