A study of offensive and defensive strategies and techniques, practice and game responsibilities, rules and related coaching concepts and ideas are covered. Prerequisite: PED 234 or consent of instructor. Spring, odd academic years (second seven weeks).

A study of individual player's offensive and defensive skills, different offensive and defensive systems of play and other coaching responsibilities. Prerequisite: PED 234 or consent of instructor. Spring (first seven weeks).

History, rules, offensive and defensive systems of football, current trends, and coaching methods are covered. Prerequisite: PED 234 or consent of instructor. Fall (first seven weeks).

A study of team strategy, systems of play, rules, mechanics of skill development, team selection, practice organization, drills, scouting, and team statistics. Prerequisite: PED 234 or consent of instructor. Fall, even academic years (second seven weeks).

A study of the coaching techniques for each of the track and field events including the organization and administration of track meets, daily practice structures, and psychology of coaching track and field event competition. Prerequisite: PED 234 or consent of instructor. Spring, even academic years (second seven weeks).

This class is designed to teach students how to develop a comprehensive swimming program. Course content will include the practical development of coaching philosophy, swimming skills and progressions, training principles, practice organization, fundamentals of diving and how to develop an overall season plan. The course will also include an introduction to swimming software. On demand - Fall or spring (seven weeks).

Administrative and organizational procedures and techniques involved in conducting successful recreation programs. Fall, odd academic years.

3.00 Credits
Methods, techniques, and teaching progressions of fundamental skills and common tactics for invasion and field games. Sports include: softball, basketball, soccer, flag football, team handball, floor hockey, plus activities/adaptations for special needs populations. . Education majors will experience and demonstrate an understanding of a variety of teaching methods and curricular approaches applicable to a K-12 teaching setting. Prerequisites: Recreation majors - PED 250; K-12 Education majors - PED 250, EDS 225. Education majors must also be enrolled in EFE/SFS 384. Other majors: Departmental consent. Fall.

Methods, techniques and teaching progressions of fundamental skills and common tactics for games involving a target, net, and/or wall. Sports to be covered include: archery, badminton, bowling, golf, tennis, volleyball, wallyball, and racquetball. Prerequisites: Recreation majors - PED 234, 250; K-12 Education majors - PED 234, 250, PED 345, and EDS 225. K-12 majors must also be enrolled in EFE/SFE 385. Other majors: Departmental consent. Spring.
