    The class deals with spiritual exploration in American post-modern art primarily on examples of Christian and Buddhist inspired paintings by Alexander Marnovich.     The course deals with core concepts of Christian and Oriental spiritual traditions. The class will deal with spiritual exploration in the art of Alexander Markovich, American artist who worked in the 1980s. His art was inspired by myths of the Christian and Oriental (India and the Far East) religions. The class will also deal with the common core of leadership information.

    Russia. In the 1950's,American children hid in their basement fallout shelters and feared that strange and forbidden land. Today, Russia is a critical ally for the United States. If we are to understand the global politics that affects our country and our daily lives, we must know something of the tremendous changes that have occured in Russia. But these are not the first changes in that exotic land. The history of Russia is one of the most dramatic of any country in the world. In the last three hundred years there have been three major upheavals that have affected its government, religion, and the social structure. This course will focus on the leaders of Russia. By examining their lives and leadership styles, we will attempt to understand the culture that has shaped the Russian people with whom we work today. Pre-requisites: None, Instructor, Bonnie Pribush

    This intercultural leadership course is an introduction to gender, sexuality, and the family in Latin America from the pre-Columbian era to the present. Come learn about the culture of honor in Spanish America, where just touching a man's beard could spark violence. Explore the dramatic differences in how the Incas, Aztecs, and Spaniards conceptualized childhood. Find out how marriages helped build Brazilian roads. See how women like Eva Peron and Rigoberta Menchu played leading roles in advancing social justice and Indigenous rights in the 20th century. As part of the examination of these, and other topics, the course will introduce students to the study of leadership (including leadership theories, conflict management, decision making, power and influence, and vision)

    Course Description: This course traces the history of the American Civil War with emphasis on comparing and evaluating various leadership styles. Examples will be taken from traditionally known leaders as well as from the common soldiers. Multicultural regiments and their leaders will be highlighted with discussion of the changing roles played by women, African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics and immigrant soldiers.     This travel course covers the classical period through the Renaissance. Italy offers more examples of Classical, Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art than perhaps any other single country. Profiles in leadership in religion and art: Religious and political innovators: St. Peter, St. Paul, Constantine, and the growth of the Papacy, St. Francis, and the Doges. The Artist as Cultural Leader: Giotto, Caravaggio, Raphael, Michelangelo, Palladio.

    Course Description: Culture can be described as the way of life of a group of people. This way of life includes all aspects of human affairs. China is one of the oldest surviving civilizations in the world today. It possesses 5,000 years of written history. One of the important aspects of Chinese culture is the unique leadership style, which is in contrast with the leadership style of a democratic setting. This course is a survey of this intriguing country. In addition to reading, videos, lectures, and student project presentations are the major components of this course. Pre-requisites: None.     The central question we will work hard to answer in this course will be "What makes Francois I such an important leaders in European history?" Francois chose to rule his country in a way that was markedly different than any of his predecessors', so what exactly set him apart and what can we learn about his leadership style? In attempting to answer these questions, we will learn about a number of different leadership styles, read from a number of texts that bear upon questions of leadership, texts from classical antiquity and texts from Francois' own time. And during our trip overseas, we will walk in this leader's footsteps, retracing the paths he walked when a boy, a young man at court, and finally when king. We will examine the ways he used writers and painters to bring a sense of refinement to his court, his land, and to his own image as a great ruler. We will examine the way he navigated the turbulent political waters churned up by the often violent struggle between the Protestants and the Catholics. And we will try to understand his fascination with conquering the Italian states, which proved to be so destructive to himself and to his country. Pre-requisites: None.     Bus boycotts, freedom rides, protest songs, and peaceful demonstrations -- these were all a part of the Civil Rights Movement. This course will explore how the leaders of this movement courageously confronted inequality, segregation, and racism in the South. The nonviolent philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi will be discussed in terms of its manifestation in the faith of movement members. Freedom songs, protest songs, and music that united blacks and whites in method and message will also be highlighted. A travel component will take students into the American South to observe and experience various aspects of this movement and era.

    This course introduces students to contemporary Canadian political leaders and their respective leadership styles. Examination of their respective leadership styles and accomplishments will focus on election campaigns and plebiscites since 1993. The course also provides an overview over central aspects of leadership theory, the Canadian political system, and Canadian political parties and thie programs. Prerequisites: None.
