    This course will explore the life and works of C. S. Lewis, one of the most popular, prolific, and imaginative writers of the 20th century. An Oxford scholar and adult convert to Christianity, his writings deal with timeless questions: What is truth? Does God exist? How can a loving God allow suffering? We will examine Lewis' treatment of these and other questions through some of his most popular and enduring works in genres ranging from children's literature to theology and ethics. The course will center around discussion of assigned readings along with student projects on Lewis' life and secondary works. Also included will be a visit to the Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College, which houses a collection of rare Lewis items and memorabilia. Prerequisites: None. Extra Fees: Field trip to Wheaton, IL. expenses. Instructor: Robert Talbert. A-F grading.

    This class will focus on the use of masks and puppets within theatre, and how that use has been affected by their use in society. It will cover the history of mask use, including, but not limited to, ancient man, African and Japanese. We will look at the modern use of masks and how it has grown from historical use, as well as the effect a mask has on a performer. For puppetry, study will be on origins, historical uses and a more modern approach within theatre. Concurrent to this study, one class day each week will focus on construction techniques; such as life casting, negative and positive molds, and a variety of structural and decorative materials. Evaluation will consist of each student writing two papers, two exams and their three hands-on projects. Extra credit will be given for projects that are chosen for use in the theatre's production of Romeo and Juliet.

    Students will learn symbolic logic and use it in solving problems and writing proofs. Students will then work with more generalized logic problems and their solutions. After a brief introduction to probability, students will devise strategies for playing simple board games, which will lead to a study of commercial board games such as Othello, Backgammon, and Risk. This class meets twice a day for sixteen days during Winter Term. Fees: $25

    This interdisciplinary course will explore representative images of males, both fictional and "real," who have risen to the level of icons in American Culture. Through characters in novels, short stories and film, we will examine the myth of the American west and question the power of White Masculinity and the rise of Celebrity Culture. After studying some of the primary texts that contribute to American ideals of heroic masculinity, we will ask how contemporary American leaders capitalize on these cultural myths as they participate in political arenas, popular culture, and self-promotion. This course includes a leadership component.

    This course prepares students for the popular Comp TIA A+ certification exams. The Comp TIA A+ certification is the industry standard for validating vendor-neutral skills expected of an entry-level computer technician. Those holding the A+ certification have a broad base of knowledge and competency in core hardware and operating system technologies including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. Evaluations are based on weekly quizzes, a midterm and a final exam

    This is an applied course, designed to help students develop leadership skills both by discussing and exploring integration of mind and body through practice of yoga and meditation and invites all ethnic and religious diversity. Prerequisite: Must not have any health issues compromising practice of yoga. Requires fitness certification. Students will need to have an exercise outfit suitable for practicing yoga.

    Students will be instructed in techniques that will help them to take the Medical College Admissions Test. The main topics on the exam will be reviewed and students will take several practice MCAT exams. Prerequisite: BIO 114, CHE 121, 122, and PHY 121. Extra Fees: None. Instructor: Steve Browder.     A general science course covering the expanding field of nanotechnology. This course will focus on the science behind the "hype" of this subject. The course will revisit the origins of the field and spotlight the myriad of current advances. Additionally, the social, political, economical, and ethical ramifications of the "nanotech revolution" will be considered. Student will participate in 3-5 laboratory exercises and perhaps a field trip to engage nanotechnology firsthand.

The high quality of wildlife films today makes them an excellent medium for teaching animal behavior and ecology in a nontechnical and highly interesting way. From the behavior of a wolf pack in the arctic tundra to a fascinating look inside the human body, the class ranges widely through the field of nature photography. Prerequisites: None Fees: None
