    Description: Study of the human form as a means of developing a personal aesthetic in painting/illustration. Graduate students will present a slide presentation/lecture about their own and three other artists' work.     Description: This is a studio art class designed to take students through the process of researching, creating, and producing work in the comic book genre for presentation within the comic industry. Advanced drawing students will have the opportunity to learn techniques and approaches to an art medium that has thoroughly penetrated contemporary culture. Graduate-level requirements include a presentation, a five page essay discussing the historical, cultural, and theoretical issues involved in their finished works.     Description: This course follows the creation of a picture book from concept to finished proposal. Character, voice, and the interplay of text and illustrations are examined as means to effective story telling, overview of contemporary and classic book illustration. Graduate-level requirements include two reports. One on the work, life and historical context of an artist. The other on the elements and structure of a specific book. Grading: Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E. Prerequisite(s): 6 units of upper division studio art courses or consent of instructor.     Description: Pictorial documentation of environments, characters and scenarios inspired by the Orvieto setting. Sketchbooks and travel journals will be used, story telling and visual essay techniques, handmade books, comics, graphic novels, picture books as objects of art explored.     Description: This course builds on the concept of drawing as a means of investigation, expression and documentation of visual, intellectual and emotional worlds. Orvieto and other regions of Italy will be utilized via field trips to archeological digs, centers of art, and local environs.
