Description: This course provides an introduction into the field of early childhood education. Students will gain an appreciation for the ideas, professional accomplishments and contributions of the great theorists who have influenced and continue to influence the field of early childhood education. Understanding the ideas of early educators and the five philosophies of education will help the students know how to implement current teaching strategies/models of practice (for example, the perspectives of Rousseau, Froebel, and Montessori will be examined). Additionally, the role of the adult/professional who provides developmentally and culturally appropriate practices will be examined. Grading: Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E.
