Description: This elective is designed to offer a comprehensive introduction to podiatric medicine and surgery. The student will be able to: improve fundamental surgical skills (e.g., suturing, injections, minor surgery); perform a complete diabetic foot exam; properly debride lower extremity ulcers and formulate a wound care regimen; interpret foot and ankle x-rays; assist in the care of foot and ankle trauma; assist in the preoperative assessment, intraoperative treatment, and postoperative care of reconstructive surgical patients.
