Selective examination of the historical development of social welfare and professional social work in Europe and the United States. Uses a systematic framework for policy analysis with particular attention paid to policies affecting women, low income, oppressed and diverse rural populations. Prerequisite: eligibility for advanced standing. Must be taken concurrently with 502 and 512. Grade of B or better is required to continue in the advanced standing program.
