GEOL 3211: Invertebrate Paleobiology
3.00 Credits
Georgia Southwestern State University
Paleontology has traditionally served the earth sciences primarily as a tool for determining the ages of rocks and inferring how they correlate from place to place. More recently it has become apparent that paleontology provides a unique historical viewpoint on the evolution of the natural environment. This course introduces students to the basic evidence of the earth's past life available to paleontolo- gists, assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of that evidence, and the logical application of that evidence to both traditional problems of correlation and to modern discussion of the evolutionary history of the Earth's environment. Permission of instructor also required in addition to course prerequisites. (3-2-4) Prerequisites: ( GEOL 1122 or ESC 120 ) or BIOL 2108
