HISTORY AND APPRECIATION OF JAZZ AND ROCK This course introduces students to the history and appreciation of American popular music forms, from early blues and spirituals to contemporary rock, electronica and urban styles, emphasizing the contribution of the recognized masters of the different genres and styles.

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in ENC 1101 or ENC 1101H or IDH 1110 Survey of compositional and performance styles of significant composers from Middle Ages to present. Extensive live and recorded listening experiences. Required of all music majors. Gordon Rule course in which the student is required to demonstrate college-level writing skills through multiple writing assignments. Minimum grade of C is required if MUL 1110 is used to satisfy the humanities requirement in general education.

LIVE SOUND TECHNIQUES Prerequisite: TPA 1380 and a minimum grade of C in TPA 2260 This course reviews the theory and practices of sound reinforcement for the entertainment industry. It covers audio equipment, sound systems, and sound reinforcement for live events with a hands-on, project-focused approach. (Special Fee: $53.00)

Prerequisites: Minimum grade of C in MUS 1621 or minimum grades of C in MUT 1122 and TPA 2260 This course is designed to develop recording skills through solid eartraining for quality of sound, principles of psychoacoustics, and basic studio techniques, including principles of analog and digital recording, and crafting of the mix. Digidesign's Pro Tools 101? is covered as part of the regular curriculum in this course. Students must be prepared for additional hours of studio work. (Special Fee to be determined. Please refer to the online catalog.)

SOUND RECORDING l Prerequisites: Minimum grades of C in MUS 1621 or MUT 1122 and TPA 2260 Corequisite: MUM 2634L This course is designed to develop recording skills through solid ear-training for quality of sound, principles of psychoacoustics, and basic studio techniques, including principles of analog and digital recording, and crafting of the mix. Digidesign's Pro Tools 101 is covered as part of the regular curriculum in this course. Students must be prepared for additional hours of studio work. (Special Fee: $84.00)

SOUND RECORDING II Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in MUM 2600 This course focuses on advanced studio techniques, microphone selection, studio equipment calibration, including analog Multitrack recorders and advanced digital audio training on Digidesign's Pro Tools.
