    This course examines the major social, economic and political development of Latin American history. Internal problems of these nations and the role in the Pan American movement will be discussed. The influence Latin American immigrants have had on the growth and development of the United States is emphasized. This course is designed to raise students' awareness and sensitivity of the multicultural composition of American culture.

    This course presents a history of the founding and development of the United States from Colonial Era to the present with special emphasis on the social, economic and political impact on the US culture of WWI, WWII, the cold war, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Korean and Vietnam wars. A particular emphasis will be to discuss the roles and contributions of ethnic minorities in the development of the United States. Topics in American History, from a multicultural perspective, shall be discussed to help students to enlarge their multicultural views.

    Explores the aspects and activities associated with the integral operations of a visual arts program for elementary school students. Procedures and applicable methods for instilling self-esteem and creativity in the works of students will be central to the course. A variety of cultural themes will be utilized in selected classroom activities and special projects. Signs of possible psychological disturbances reflected in projective drawings (e.g., depression, anxiety, psychosis, and aggression) will be presented as well. Motor skills disorder as described in the DSM-IV-TR will be addressed. Methods of minimizing material expenditures while still providing meaningful artistic expression in the classroom will be presented.

    The Research Project is a major research effort designed to enhance knowledge in an area related to one's work or community, improve writing and presentation skills, incorporate multicultural factors and provide research skills to assist in effective decision-making. In this module, the students will define the topic, locate the sources, and begin the research and writing.

    During this module students will conduct interviews for the project and make their first oral presentation.
  • 3.00 - 4.00 Credits

    The student completes a research project related to his/her employment environment. Statistical analysis concepts and methods presented in the "Methods of Statistical Research and Analysis" module assist the student in identifying a topic, collecting data, identifying cultural biases and measuring results. A college faculty member monitors the progress of the independent study, and an on-site contact makes certain that the student devotes at least 200 clock hours to the project. An oral report of project findings is given by each student. Two seminars (Action Research Project Seminars A and B) are conducted to give direction and structure to the development of the project and to assist the student in developing a multicultural perspective.

Emphasis is placed on increasing the student's ability to discriminate between works and styles, and in understanding personal preferences. The relationship between art and the cultural/social structure throughout history is explored. Psychological factors in art adding creativity and multicultural sensitivity are viewed as important aspects in this process.

    This course presents an overview of the history, social, political and cultural customs of Asian cultures. This course is designed to provide students with cultural overviews, cross cultural communication skills, business and social protocols when dealing with Asians and Asian Americans, both locally and abroad, in order to prepare the student to address the needs of a global market place. Cultural sensitivity is emphasized. Minor in Child Psychology (15 credits)

    Relationship of the individual to the biosphere. Discussions and demonstrations and films on the relationship of the individual and different cultures to the ecology, resource use and environmental impact. Topics in Environmental Science, from a multicultural perspective, shall be discussed to help students to enlarge their multicultural views.
