Introduces the student to concepts and principles common to nursing practice. Included are health, wellness, human needs, development across the life span, therapeutic communication, and legal and ethical issues. The two primary nurse theorists of the program, Roy's theory of adaptation and Watson's theory of human caring are presented. This course introduces a wide breadth of content, which is covered more in depth throughout the curriculum. As part of this course the simulation laboratory is used for students to practice skills prior to executing them in a clinical situation. The practice includes the nursing process, critical thinking, and psychomotor skills such as bed baths, catheritization, vital signs, etc. The scientific principles underlying procedures are also covered.
