Introduces nonscience majors to the organisms and ecology of tropical marine systems, with special emphasis on the organisms that live in and among coral reefs. Surveys tropical marine taxa--from algae to pelagic and benthic marineinvertebrates. Provides a brief overview of coral reef ecology that introduces students to basic food webs and trophic relationships. Weekly classroom lectures. Students synthesize information gained from the literature in two written reports, one focused on an organism of choice and the other on a marine process.
