This seminar explores major issues in Stravinsky study through most relevant literature concerning Stravinsky's life, musical style, aesthetics and the socio-cultural forces shaping his ideas and music through reading, listnening and analyzing his music, discussions over the reading material, and through completing individualized research projects. There will be oral presentations of those projects for group critique which would make it easier for commuting the presentations to paper. Your research projects can help you learn a great deal about the subject matter. In addition, your need for a particular kind of information for which other students in this seminar may have worked on can be accomodated through the exchange of bibliographies.
