  • 2.00 Credits

Class hours: 6.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times.
  • 4.00 Credits

Class hours: 4.0 Lecture This is a survey course intended for non-electronics majors. It satisfies the general requirements in electronics for Industrial Arts Teacher Training at state universities. It is also an acceptable substitute for the electronics background required as a prerequisite to enter the electronics program. This course will cover DC and AC electrical theory, magnetism, transistors, and integrated circuits. Basic concepts of electronic devices, circuits, and systems will be demonstrated. Transfer Credit: CSU
  • 4.00 Credits

Class hours: 4.0 Lecture This course covers atomic structure and the electron theory, Ohm's and Kirchhoff's laws for DC circuits, magnetism, inductance, capacitance, DC measurements, and DC network analysis. Transfer Credit: CSU
  • 4.00 Credits

Class hours: 4.0 Lecture Prerequisite: EL 110 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course covers the analysis of AC circuits using both resistive and reactive components. The concept of resonance and filter circuits is introduced and network theorems are studied. Transfer Credit: CSU
  • 3.00 Credits

Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Prerequisite: EL 100 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. Corequisite: EL 134L Recommendation: EL 60. This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of digital electronics. The content includes number systems, Boolean algebra, combinational and sequential logic circuits, memory systems, and programmable logic devices that include GALs, PALs, FPGA, VHDL, CPLD, and interfacing techniques. TTL integrated circuits are used in the laboratory to implement student-designed projects. Transfer Credit: CSU
  • 1.00 Credits

Class hours: 3.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: EL 134 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher or concurrent enrollment. Recommendation: TM 50, EL 60 and EL 100. This is a laboratory course designed to support the concepts learned in EL 134, Digital Circuits and Computer Logic. Experiments are used to apply the use of number systems, Boolean algebra, and logic symbols to the design and construction of combinational and sequential digital electronic circuits. Basic multivibrator, memory, microprocessor, and programmable logic devices including GALs, PALs, FPGAs, and CPLD and interfacing techniques will also be covered. Students will use hardware description languages such as CUPL and VHDL. Design projects will be constructed using integrated circuits and computer simulations. Transfer Credit: CSU
  • 3.00 Credits

Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Prerequisite: EL 120 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher or concurrent enrollment. Recommendation: EL 100 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course covers the theory of operation of semiconductor devices and development and analysis of the basic circuits employed in analog electronic systems. Transfer Credit: CSU
  • 1.00 Credits

Class hours: 3.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: EL 120L or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher or concurrent enrollment. Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment or completion of EL 200 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. Recommendation: EL 50, EL 60. Experiments planned to accompany the lectures in EL 200 covering semiconductor diodes, transistors and transistor amplifiers are included in this course. Transfer Credit: CSU
