This course is intended to develop the sensitivity, skills and knowledge needed by teachers and others in the field of education to create an educational environment that is conducive to learning for students with disabilities. It will also be helpful for those who may have other learning challenges such as English second language learners. Students will investigate strategies for differentiating instruction for students with learning and other disabilities and challenges within the general educational environment. Through lecture and hands-on experience, participants will explore practical uses of software that can be applied to classroom learning materials to make those materials more accessible to students needing assistance. This course trains educators and prospective educators in the use of handheld computers in education to perform administrative, instructional, and other classroom functions. Specific topics include the basics of using Palm OS handhelds, as well as more advanced functions such as productivity tools, student information system tools, assessment tools, web clipping, e-books, science probes, and writing tools. Other topics include policy and management issues related to handhelds and forming a plan for a school's use of handhelds. Transfer Credit: CSU

The course will cover the process, structure, and skills to develop a conceptual framework for fundraising research, planning, writing skills and strategies. This course covers the use of digital communication in education by creating and using digital music and other audio recordings in the classroom using audio editing software. Using digital music and voice recordings, students will learn to do the following: create, perform, and record original music for digital movies, podcasts, and slideshows; capture streaming audio; create audio files for slideshows; and capture and assess oral readings. Using these free movie editing software packages, students will learn to bring lessons to live by creating video "reports" to demonstrate abstract concepts through narration, video, music, and pictures. This course covers the concepts and techniques for creating animation using clay characters to enhance storytelling, creative writing, and visualization of mathematical and scientific concepts. Building upon the theories of multiple intelligences in learning, clay animation enhances student learning through a variety of methods. Transfer Credit: CSU

This course covers the concepts and techniques for creating web-based broadcasting, called podcasts, for educational purposes and making them available on the Internet. Podcasting is a way to post and distribute electronic media files online. Podcasting content, resources, hardware and software requirements, and procedures will be covered in addition to methods of integrating podcasts into educational course content. Transfer Credit: CSU

A course management system is software that helps to create an effective Internet-based learning environment using pedagogical principles.
