    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Cerritos College Teacher Training Academy (Teacher TRAC) or CSULB'S Integrated Teacher Education program (ITEP). EDEL 100 will provide students with an introduction to teaching as a profession. The course will address the qualities of an effective teacher, components and purposes of an effective professional portfolio, and critical issues in diverse contemporary classrooms.     Class hours: 1.0 Lecture Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Cerritos College Teacher Training Academy. EDEL 105 will provide students with an introduction to the profession of teaching at the secondary level. Teaching and learning in contemporary classrooms serving diverse student populations are discussed. The course will address professional teaching standards and current educational issues. Students will begin development of their Teacher TRAC Reflective Portfolio. Ten hours observation in a middle/high school is a required component of this course. Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Cerritos College Teacher Training Academy (Teacher TRAC) or CSULB'S Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), and completion of EDEL 100 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. EDEL 200 provides an overview of the teaching profession for students enrolled in the Teacher TRAC Program. Students will be exposed to the philosophies of education, the history of education in America, the society of education, contemporary issues in education, and the role of education in American society.     Class hours: 3.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. For selected disciplines, UC transfer credit may be possible after admission to a UC campus, pending review of appropriate course materials by UC staff. See a counselor for an explanation. This course is designed for educators who wish to learn about the Internet and how to incorporate the Internet into the classroom curriculum. Participants will learn fundamental and advanced Internet search methods, email use and management, and techniques for setting up and using a website in the classroom. A supportive learning community will be provided where educators collaborate to improve their skills in creating effective learning resources using suitable technologies. Transfer Credit: CSU

This course is for educators who wish to learn about the Internet through innovative curriculum projects. Participants will use fundamental Internet search methods, e-mail and web sites in the creation of an Internet-based project supporting project - or problem-based learning. A supportive learning community will be provided where educators collaborate and improve their skills in creating effective learning resources using suitable technologies. This course trains educators and prospective educators to use efficiently technology to perform administrative, instructional, and other classroom tasks using electronic spreadsheet software. Spreadsheet-specific topics include the fundamentals of creating worksheets; formulas and functions; creating charts; using Wizards; techniques to manipulate large worksheets and multiple-sheet workbooks; and integration of spreadsheet software into course curriculum. Other topics include impact of technology on education; past, current, and future technology trends; and copyright issues. This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. Transfer Credit: CSU

This course trains educators and prospective educators who wish to learn how to work with word processing documents as they prepare curriculum. Participants will use basic and intermediate word processing functions to create administrative, instructional, and classroom management documents. Word processing topics include creating, editing, saving, formatting, printing, spell checking, searching, replacing, headers and footers, footnotes and hyphenation, thesaurus, macros, merging and outlining functions. Other topics include impact of technology on education; past, current, and future technology trends; and copyright issues. This course may be taken for a maximum of 2 times. Transfer Credit: CSU

This course trains educators and prospective educators who wish to learn how to work with Microsoft PowerPoint as a mode of teaching and as they prepare curriculum. Participants will use basic and intermediate presentation graphic software functions to create administrative, instructional, and classroom management materials. Topics include creating, managing, and delivering a multi-media curriculum-based presentation. Students will produce conceptual and data-intensive presentations, create professional output for overheads, on-screen presentations, speaker notes, and support handouts incorporating text and graphics. Other topics include impact of technology on education; past, current, and future technology trends; and copyright issues. This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. Transfer Credit: CSU
