    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. This course introduces the student to the concept of optimum oral health care through plaque control, preventive dentistry and the role of the auxiliaries on the dental health team. Emphasis is placed on oral hygiene practices and patient motivation. Also included are etiology of soft and hard deposits, and patient instruction in plaque control care. Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. Corequisite: DH 115C This course covers the basic principles of infection control and the application of "standard precautions" in the dental health care setting. Included in this course is the selection and use of procedures and products to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the practice of dental hygiene. Specific step-by-step procedures and current regulatory mandates related to infection control and the management of hazardous materials will be covered in detail. In addition, knowledge and skills related to preparedness for the prevention of medical emergencies in the dental setting will be covered. Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/3.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. This course is a study of dental radiography, the characteristics and methods of controlling x-radiation, types of film used, methods of processing, identifying, and mounting radiographs, radiation safety procedures, and interpretation of radiographs for preliminary evaluation. It includes the theories and techniques of intra-oral and extra-oral, and digital radiography with laboratory experience and analysis of technique errors. Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. Corequisite: DH 115C This course introduces the student to the methodology and rationale for patient assessment and data collection. It includes patient histories, determination of vital signs, extraoral and intraoral examination, examination of the gingival and periodontal tissues, examination of the teeth and appropriate documentation of the data. The student will receive essential information for assessment of a patient prior to the formulation of the dental hygiene treatment service plan. Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 6.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program and a valid adult, child and infant CPR card including two-person CPR. Corequisite: DH 114 This course provides the student with the pre-clinical and clinical experience designed to develop thorough and efficient dental instrumentation techniques for comprehensive oral hygiene services.
