    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Recommendation: BCOM 46, CRCC 57A, CRCC 140, and CRCC 141 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is a continuation of the study of the grammar, punctuation, and capitalization of spoken language with emphasis on further developing the students' ability to analyze and correctly apply rules of punctuation, word usage, and spelling to increasingly complex sentence structures. Additional emphasis will be placed on the creation of stenotype machine outlines requisite for realtime computer translation. (Formerly BUSC 57B)

    Class hours: 3.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times.     Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This course will give court reporters and court reporting students an introduction to the use of ProCAT court reporting computer-aided transcription (CAT) software. Students will learn how to use this software in the CAT process of producing transcripts and writing realtime. This course is for students just beginning to use ProCAT software. This course may be taken a maximum of 4 times. (Formerly BUSC 9A)

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This course will give court reporters and court reporting students who are already using the basic functions of ProCAT software for court reporting computer-aided transcription (CAT) an introduction to some of the more advanced function capabilities of the software.     Class hours: 1.3 Lecture/1.7 Laboratory Prerequisite: Verification of a minimum of 480 hours of work experience as a dental assistant. This course prepares the working dental assistant with theories and techniques of intra-oral and extra-oral radiography including application to a variety of patients. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the student will receive a California Radiation License. This course may be taken for a maximum of 2 times. This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only.

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/3.0 Laboratory This course is an introduction to the application of basic dental sciences and infection control. It includes dental terminology, microbiology, anatomy of the head and neck, oral physiology, tooth morphology, preliminary oral examination, taking impressions for study models, pouring models, and bleaching techniques. It also includes procedures in managing asepsis, infection and hazard control consisting of maintenance, disinfection and sterilization of equipment, supplies, and disposal of hazardous waste pertaining to patient care.

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/3.0 Laboratory This course is a study of the dental x-ray, the characteristics and methods of controlling x-radiation, types of film used methods of processing, identifying, and mounting radiographs, radiation safety procedures, interpretation of radiographs, and an analysis of technique errors. It includes modern intra-oral dental and extra-oral radiographic techniques, arrangement and care of the darkroom equipment, composition and preparation of solutions, procedures for processing films, and mounting films. The student will practice on the manikin exposing films using radiation protection and safety guidelines.

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/3.0 Laboratory Corequisite: DA 54 This course involves instruction in the role and responsibilities of the chairside assistant. It includes basic qualifications, preparing patient for treatment, taking of a health history, charting, terminology, positioning of patient-operator-auxiliary for four-handed dental procedures, assisting with administration of local anesthetic agents, placement of a rubber dam, instrument exchange, oral evacuation, retraction, illumination, and assisting with endodontic procedures. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is included as part of the course content.

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/6.0 Laboratory Corequisite: DA 53 This course includes manikin instruction in the techniques, materials, and instrumentation for assisting in operative dental procedures such as amalgam and composite restorations, gold inlays and crowns, and fixed bridges. An introduction to intra-oral tasks delegated to registered dental assistants which are related to operative dentistry, such as matrix placement, placement of bases and liners, placement of plastic temporary restorations, and removal of excess cement is also provided.
