    Class hours: 1 hour/week coordination class Corequisite: Enrollment in 7 or more units, including Court Reporting and Captioning Careers Occupational Work Experience. Three units of Court Reporting and Captioning Careers Occupational Work Experience require 180 non-paid hours of work or 225 paid hours of work per semester. Four units of Court Reporting and Captioning Careers Occupational Work Experience require 240 non-paid hours of work or 300 paid hours of work per semester. Work Experience/Career Internship provides the opportunity for students to apply skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to related experiences on the job/training site. The aim of the course is to assist students in expanding specific job skills. This creates greater communication with increased understanding between the student/workers, the college, and the employer/trainers. First semester students meet with their instructors for a minimum of one hour per week. Students also pursue a program of self-evaluation to determine individual job weaknesses and strengths. . Semester projects that relate to their major and job skills must be completed on the job/training site. Students will meet weekly with the instructor until their participatory assignments and semester work projects have been approved. These courses may be taken for a maximum of 4 times.     Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/8.0 Laboratory Recommendation: Strongly recommend completion of CSR academic requirements and Court Reporting CAT computer classes. Minimum stenotype speed of 190 wpm and typing speed of 60 wpm. This course is designed for potential Certified Shorthand Reporter Examination candidates and Registered Professional Reporter Examination candidates. It will provide intensive sustained dictation at 225-240 wpm to develop speed and endurance on the steno machine. This course may be taken for a maximum of 4 times. Strongly recommend completion of CSR academic requirements and Court Reporting CAT computer classes. This course is designed for candidates for the Certified Shorthand Reporter examination, the Registered Professional Reporter examination, and the Registered Merit Reporter examination. It will provide intensive, sustained dictation at 240-260 wpm to develop speed, accuracy, and endurance on the steno machine. (Formerly BUSC 181) Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Recommendation: CRCC 119B and CRCC 144 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is designed to teach students the basics of realtime captioning as applied to broadcast captioning; captioning of video and other media; captioning for hearing impaired at public gatherings, meetings, and in the classroom; and captioning over the Internet. This course will cover the basic concepts of captioning for students interested in exploring a career in captioning. This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times.     Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Recommendation: CRCC 119B, CRCC 144 and CRCC 193A or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is designed to be a basic course in broadcast captioning, also known in the industry as closed-captioning using court reporting skills. This course will cover the basic theoretical concepts of broadcast captioning for students interested in exploring a career in the broadcast captioning field. This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times.

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Recommendation: CRCC 57A, CRCC 142, and CRCC 192 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is designed to help students acquire the skills necessary to proofread accurately and correct computer transcripts of legal proceedings. Proofreading is an essential step in the production of all computer-aided transcripts, including court records and deposition transcripts. This course may be taken for a maximum of 2 times.     Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Recommendation: CRCC 140, CRCC 141, and BCOM 46 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. This course emphasizes the grammar, punctuation, and capitalization of spoken language including vocabulary building with an emphasis on spelling, homophone differentiation, and stenotype machine outlines requisite for realtime computer transcription. (Formerly BUSC 57A)
