    Class hours: 5.0 Lecture/15.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: A valid Cosmetology license and five years verified work experience. This course is the first of two sequenced courses designed to prepare the licensed cosmetologist for the cosmetology instructor examination as required by the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Content includes demonstrations on teaching with the student participating in both lectures of related information and practical demonstration of topics that are required for State Board licensure.

The lecture section consists of continued and more advanced demonstrations in teaching with the student participating in both lectures of related information and practical demonstration of students that are required for State Board licensure.

    Class hours: 3.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times.

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This course will give court reporters and court reporting students an introduction to the use of Case CATalyst court reporting computer-aided transcription (CAT) software. Students will learn how to use this software in the CAT process of producing transcripts and writing realtime. This course is for students who are just beginning to use Case CATalyst software. This course may be taken a maximum of 4 times. (Formerly BUSC 10A)

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This course will give court reporters and court reporting students who are already using the basic functions of Case CATalyst software for court reporting computer-aided transcription (CAT) an introduction to some of the more advanced function capabilities of the software. This course may be taken a maximum of 4 times. (Formerly BUSC 10B)

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This course is designed to provide a variety of useful tools for maintaining hand care health for court reporting and captioning student who constantly use their hands in repetitive motion. Students will learn more about important aspects of hand care, including ergonomics, exercises, stretching, massage, as well as receiving instruction on how to find hand care therapists and products that can be used to reduce hand and arm tension and fatigue.     Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Recommendation: CRCC 140 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is designed to familiarize the students with legal terminology, which will prepare the students to become proficient in recognizing, using, and spelling legal terminology. This course will help the students master unfamiliar keying patterns and enhance the development of computerized shorthand skills. (Formerly BUSC 113) Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Recommendation: CRCC 142 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course of study involves medical dictation at varying degrees of speed. Dictation will include words peculiar to the human anatomy, including the skeletal structure, and medical prefixes and suffixes. Definitions of these words, pronunciation, and accuracy of transcript will be stressed. Dictation will be given for examinations, diagnoses, laboratory investigations, patient case histories, operation reports, medical records, and autopsy reports.     Class hours: 4.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Recommendation: CRCC 114, CRCC 143 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is designed to reinforce medical terminology and to build shorthand speed from dictation on familiar medical transcripts and other related material including medications, nuclear medicine, laboratory and X-ray procedures.
